AIBU to ask if you'd travel to Egypt?

Following the devastating events in Tunisia last week, what would your thoughts be on travelling to Egypt? I was actually in Tunisia at the resort where it happened five days prior to the attack, so it feels a little too close to home!

A few people have said I'm being silly to change my plans to go to Egypt in December based on this, however, my dad has pleaded for me to stay away from Muslim countries for the time being. The people who have said I'm being silly say that, they're clearly targeting tourist hotspots - it could happen just as easily in Tenerife as it could in a Muslim country. But from what I know, isn't there something to do with the borders being in Libya open to certain countries that allow it to be easier?

Well we're all targets, whether it be in Tunisia or the UK, is what I'm saying. And look at the recent events in France - seemed pretty easy for terrorists to stroll into a magazine HQ and start executing people there.

To be honest, I'd be more put off by the sexual harassment issues in Egypt than I would by the terrorist threat.

What about Dubai, OP? If you want sun, sea, sand and safety then it's a good bet.

I probably wouldn't go. I also lived in Egypt for 3 years and agree with hissy about the sexual harassment. It is non stop.
I still have a few friends there, but most have left over the past two years. I had too many incidents of not feeling safe for me to think about returning, even for a holiday.

yes why not Dubai??
A place built on slave labour! Hmm

My egyptian friend is thinking of getting married in Sharm el Sheik next year - she's obviously not worried!
(I worry that the security situation is gong to get worse between now and then and english firends/relatives might not be able to go - i.e. can't get travel insurance or whatever)

Like the UK wasn't built in slave labour, ihate?

We're booked to go to ashram in December and unless there's a home office announcement that says not to go then I will.

We've been before and never had a police escort from the airport? No idea where that's come from because it definitely didn't happen when we went

I'd rather go there than the U.S. Tbh, the amount of random shootings they have there would bother me much more, and there's risks everywhere, I won't be bullied into not going

Sharm! Bloody phone
