DP's brother came round to cook himself dinner

It went like this... I had cooked dinner for DP and I, we finished eating and I cleared up, the kitchen was nice and tidy.
DP's brother came round with a meal and said 'I'm gonna put this meal in the oven I'm starving!'
That's ok, I was a bit annoyed that the oven had to go on twice, we have to watch the electric metre.
Once he had finished he just chucked his plate and oven dish with his cutlery into the sink and left them there.
He didn't even bother tidying up after himself!
AIBU to be annoyed?
I told DP I don't want him coming round cooking his own dinner unless he tidies up after himself or at least puts his food in the oven while it's already on.

oops - he is the cheeky fecker, not you, that came out a bit wrong in that bit, sorry.

I would be FUMING. Not the heating up of the meal so much, but dumping the mess in the sink and buggering off and leaving it. So so rude. If you make a mess, you clear it up. Should be that simple.

And if he does come round and eat with you regularly, I mean food that you've cooked; then he should contribute, either by helping out or by bringing drinks/pudding/snacks.

I'd let it go this time, but as he calls round for dinner most days, make sure he takes his share of dishwashing duty from now on. I assume you don't do all the cooking and cleaning at home?

How much does your DP do? I suspect this is part of the problem - if his brother saw him doing stuff, he'd be more likely to chip in..

Think you need to be a bit more proactive - if he texts to say he's coming over, ask him to bring stuff, at the end of a meal, sometimes say "DP, your turn to clear up" and sometimes "DP's bro, your turn to clear up."

If he's round most nights, do they go out without you most nights? It's sounds like there's a big imbalance with them potentially seeing you as playing 'mum'. Pretty sexist to assume you will clear up after them.

Is your partner the same? Do you cook and wash up all the time?

Why don't you and your DP take turns to cook?

Dp does cook occasionally but we have dinner quite early, usually around half past 5 or 6, so it's ready when he gets home from work. He works 6 days a week and starts at 7 and finishes at 5. I'm at home all day so it would seem unfair to ask him to cook, unless he wanted to, which he does sometimes but not recently. We have a newborn so were both a little tired at the moment.
Next time BIL is round and has dinner I will hand him the sponge and fairy liquid and watch his face Wink
