To think something crawled up and died in my washing machine?!

My Machine is about 4 years old, so not exactly ancient, but it smells like death!

I've used all the different washing machine cleaners and freshners you can think of on all sorts of price scales.

Cleaned it myself, put all sorts of smelly things in, but nope.... it's making the whole kitchen smell like rotten veg!!

My clothes smell fine but it's still a nightmare.

Anyone got any smashing home remedies they can give me?!

Have you checked the drains? Our house was extended at some stage and the kitchen is in the added-on bit and the pipes run through under the floor to the drain which runs under the garage (next to kitchen) and out to the street.

I have found that if I clean the drains for the sink and while I am at it, the entire house drains and toilets with Spirits of Salts followed by lots of water, the washing machine and D/W do not make any smells.

I first discovered this after moving in and noticing a pong from the machines. The previous occupiers had obviously never cleaned the drains or pipes. I did them a few times at monthly, then 3 monthly intervals as there must have been a build up, now just maintain them 2 or 3 times a year. They did get worse during hot weather or when the heating had first been switched on.

Forgot to say, I also ran the machines on an empty hot wash after doing the drains and pipes, to wash everything out.
