fgs folks MAN UP

OP posts:
quesadillas · 01/07/2015 15:01

I'm 27 weeks pregnant with twins and some ongoing health issues. My house is like a sauna. Any tips for manning up because I actually feel quite unwell at the moment?

ASorcererIsAWizardSquared · 01/07/2015 15:47

i have an air cooler, one of those fans you put water in, then when you add an iceblock to the water it blows loverly cold air.

My DH bought it me in 2006 when i was pregnant this time of year with DS and honestly, its a fucking godsend! They're expensive but worth EVERY PENNY!!

netty7070 · 01/07/2015 15:49

Having just spent 90 minutes with my Year 5 class on an athletics field - YABVVU.

cardibach · 01/07/2015 15:50

Everyone commenting that in it's ok because you can lounges around by the pool, please remember that the locals are going to work there while you are holidaying! And, judging by my slightly traveller-y holidays, there isn't much in the way of air con.
It's not hot according to Rogwr Federer - perfect weather for tennis at Wimbledon, he says (41 on centre court yesterday). He isn't lounging, and neither does he have air con. And he's from Switzerland.
We have very little good weather, really, and it annoys me when people moan immediately. (People with medical conditions exacerbated by it excepted, but that is a minority).

Redglitter · 01/07/2015 15:52

I absolutely hate this weather
Roll on autumn

netty7070 · 01/07/2015 15:55

But cardi, surely your idea of 'good weather' is completely subjective? My idea of 'good weather' is bright and sunny but cool enough to get out and about without feeling like you're going to melt. The weather at the mo is far from 'good' for me.

Notso · 01/07/2015 16:06

I hate hot weather, I'm much happier in the cooler months. Can't wait for coats, stew and cinnamon hot chocolate.

googoodolly · 01/07/2015 16:11

What's being from Switzerland got to do with it?! It gets bloody warm there in the summer, especially by the lakes. He'll be used to playing in the heat which is probably why it doesn't bother him a great deal.

dexter73 · 01/07/2015 16:17

Roger Federer is used to playing in the heat as he trains in Dubai.

answersonapostcardplease · 01/07/2015 16:20

Yabu. I actually feel unwell in this weather and toddlet struggling too.

AmberNectarine · 01/07/2015 16:21

YANBU. I went for a 5 mile run in 30 degrees this morning and survived .

quesadillas · 01/07/2015 16:21

I can't wait for mulled wine weather. I'm a winter baby through and through.

spiderlight · 01/07/2015 16:41

Me too, quesadillas - I feel utterly awful in hot weather and love nothing better than bundling up for winter. The highlight of my MN year is when the 'Recommend a warm bum-covering coat' thread comes back to the top of S&B!

Hoplikeabunny · 01/07/2015 16:46

I love the heat, honestly I do. However, if I have to spend one more minute on this sweaty, packed, airless commuter bus, I'm liable to throw myself out of the tiny window. Aaaaaarrrrrggghh!

Slowtrain2dawn · 01/07/2015 17:05

It's TFH. And I won't stop moaning because I am a grumpy cow. I had to drive round visiting all the vulnerable people in my car with NO air con all day. They were all indoors with the curtains drawn and fans on. The local park is empty so obviously a lot of people feel the same!
Tonight I have to go and sit in a baking school hall to watch a leavers performance. I have a headache despite drinking gallons of water. Did I mention I'm grumpy?
So YABU. Smile

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/07/2015 17:16

I will join you on the grumpy bench, if I may, Slowtrain. It is not too hot where I live (near Glasgow), but it is hot enough, and ds3 has given me a horrible cold he brought back from Malia, and I am sleeping really badly because of the heat and the temperature and coughing, so I am Not Happy.

GirlsTimesThree · 01/07/2015 17:20

All of you who hate the warm weather are very lucky. You only have to moan and be miserable for, tops, four weeks a year. Those of us who hate the cold and wet have to moan and hibernate for the other 11 months.

THIS!!

toomuchtooold · 01/07/2015 17:50

YABU. I don't complain about the rain ever and not about the cold unless it's below about -10 so I reserve the right to moan when it's 30+!

plutonimum · 01/07/2015 20:07

Mmmmm, mulled wine...

honeyroar · 01/07/2015 20:19

I'm fed up of it too. We've got lots of animals, and keeping them safely cool and happy in this weather is nearly as bad as looking after them in snow. I prefer it in Spring and autumn.

And I worked in the South of France and Italy, with horses, so outside, but even though it was as hot there they were better geared up for it. They had four hour lunches where you got out of the heat and had a siesta. The houses were geared to keep heat out (ours are geared up to hold heat) and the animals and children there were used to the heat more and were kept in cooler buildings (the animals, that is!).

And I will be moaning even more tomorrow as I've to drive 5 hours of motorway and mystic on hasn't been re gassed, so doesn't work!

So whoever said man up can man off!

MyChemicalMummy · 01/07/2015 21:38

OP you obviously wasn't stuck on the M25 for an hour today, with 3 other people in an un air-conditioned car, on the way back from a training course. That was hell.

evmil · 01/07/2015 21:55

I hate when its hot in England! I am from the UK but grew up in a really warm part of the USA and only moved back a few years ago with DH.

The problem with the heat over here is that nothing is made with heat in mind, as its not hot very often, meaning that when it is its stifling. Where i used to live in the US every building had air con, houses were open plan, nurseries/schools were far better with dealing with heat. Over here it is completely different.

DSS's (15, 14 and 13) are all sleeping in the sitting room tonight as they are complaining their room is like a sauna (which it is - loft conversion).

catlovingdoctor · 01/07/2015 21:57

YABU!!
