Seriously I know this is going to cause havoc but I just have to know if anyone else thinks the same as me in regards to the government and childcare costs! Why do people feel that its the governments problem and that child care should be free? You either work and pay for child care or SAH...or don't have children if you can't afford one of those options?!It's coming across as a very harsh opinion in writing but I just don't get it tbh...

Have you considered that it is a big money maker for the government to pay for childcare? The parent works and pays taxes. The nursery profits and pays taxes. It's the taxes the gov is after (which they no doubt use to pay for childcare) knowing that once the child is in school, the parent will carry on working and paying taxes.

It's about the wider picture. It's not about individualism.

I think it depends on your whole philosophy and ideals. Some of us strongly feel that we are part of a community and that taxes should be paid and wealth distributed for the good of society as a whole. It is an investment, we want the communities we live in to be safe, healthy and happy, regardless of individual's wealth or circumstance. That means welfare for those who are out of work, childcare for those who need it, pensions for the elderly etc.
Where as others have a more individualist view, every one for themselves or their own little family unit, regardless of circumstances.
