AIBU to think Parents get 'end of term fatigue' too?

I know the kids do, this last few weeks (3 to go here, they break up on the 17th) everything seems to be getting blamed on 'end of term fatigue' with behaviour.

AIBU to think we parents get it too?

I know i cant wait for an extended break from early mornings, regimented routines and having to spend 30 minutes chasing my DS who has SEN around to get him dressed and actually get his shoes on, of having to tie DD's hair up every morning, polishing shoes, making packed lunches, the stress of the pick up and wondering if DS has had a good day or not, no more waiting for the phone to ring because he's done something wrong.

I can't wait, and its dragging, i want it to be the last day, end of term now please!

Don't you guys work? Surely school hols are more of a problem than a godsend for working parents?

SaucyJack · 29/06/2015 19:12

Nope, acat.

Problem?

SaucyJack · 29/06/2015 19:12

As in- is that a problem for you?

DustBunnyFarmer · 29/06/2015 19:13

You polish shoes? No wonder you are shattered! YABU Wink

Honestly though, I am desperate to get away on holiday. DS2 has got to the stage where he bursts into tears if any of us "look at him funny" etc.

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 29/06/2015 19:15

YANBU

I've got one starting reception in September, and the other moving up to the juniors.

Every single day between now and the end of term in 3.5 weeks there is a either a school trip, some kind of leavers event at either infants or preschool, a school visit for DS2, an end of term performance for an out of school club, or something else that disrupts the normal routine.

Costumes, items needed for trips, endless forms and paperwork.

We are all exhausted, DS1 keeps bursting into tears because he can't cope with being so out of routine. Bring on the holidays.

acatisnotjustforeaster · 29/06/2015 19:17

A problem as in still having to be out the door for work each morning and sorting out suitable childcare for weeks on end. I have preschoolers so I'm just curious as to how it is all going to work out.

TiggieBoo · 29/06/2015 19:17

The only good thing about holidays is that I won't have to get uniforms washed and ironed. On the down side, I'll have to provide packed lunches for holiday club. I'm dying for a holiday, but it's not going to happen any time soon.

tilliebob · 29/06/2015 19:19

As a parent and a teacher YANBU. My own dcs are past it - 3.5 days to go here...we're all crawling towards Friday lunchtime.

crazykat · 29/06/2015 19:20

I'm so ready for the summer holidays. I hate having to rush round in the heat to get four kids up, fed, washed, dressed, hair up, teeth brushed and suncream on then walk half a mile uphill to school.

I can't wait to be able to get ready in our own time and spend the day in the garden/park/wherever.

That said, at the end of the summer holidays I can't wait for them to go back for a bit of peace!

formerbabe · 29/06/2015 19:23

Well I'm a sahm and find the holidays really tough.

So much easier when they're at school! I absolutely adore their company but have no time to myself in the summer holidays so 6 weeks without going to the gym/classes, shopping in peace or doing housework...I have no family to help so I find it relentless...can't even pop to the bank without bringing them with me!

DustBunnyFarmer · 29/06/2015 19:24

I'm just curious as to how it is all going to work out.

If you get childcare vouchers through salary sacrifice, keep them going when your kids start school. A lot of organised holiday playscheme providers take them. Basically you switch the regularity of nursery for cobbling together holiday cover and wraparound care during term-time. Just keep back enough leave for INSET days which seem to land on you with inadequate notice (or maybe that's just DSs school).

Wolfiefan · 29/06/2015 19:26

INSET days should be declared before the start of the school year.

acatisnotjustforeaster · 29/06/2015 19:28

Thanks dustbunny. I will make sure to do that with the vouchers.

DustBunnyFarmer · 29/06/2015 19:30

Thanks Wolfie. To be fair the school secretary has just circulated them for next year - after 6 years of me badgering her for them every September. I'm sure I wasn't the only one!

Kaekae · 29/06/2015 19:34

YANBU. Our school has jammed packed everything in to these last three weeks. I don't understand why? Why not spread things out? My kids are exhausted and so am I! This evening I have 11 emails alone from the school not including all the others from last week! I am ready for the 6 weeks hols, although I do think they are too long!

puffinrock · 29/06/2015 19:34

Yeah I work full tome acat but summer is great don't have to get them for school, no homework, nothing to attend, doesn't matter if they are up late you don't have care as they don't have school work to do. Love the holidays

Velvetbee · 29/06/2015 19:53

God yes, and I home educate. I just want all the activities to stop so I can sit in a small heap and rock gently

Chattymummyhere · 29/06/2015 19:56

We have 13 more school days and me and a few of the mums are counting down we cannot wait even the ones who work. So much is happening in these last weeks all the school trips/dress up days/fetes/learn with your child activities/transition week/transition meetings/trainer day/cake sale/ice cream Friday's/ raffles. It's endless very much looking forward to the kids climbing in bed and U.S. Just watching TV and relaxing a bit longer in the mornings before taking picnics to the park/strolls with the dogs to the lake/holiday/camping. Much more relaxed.

lantien · 29/06/2015 20:04

yes but it's because there is so much extra stuff at their school in these last few weeks- this week 4 different performances we had to attend, plus two days out for various things requiring a packed lunch and extra stuff.

On one hand it is great they get to have these experiences and it does in many case involve extra work on the staff who are great to do these things.

Other hand they are already tired out and their behaviour is getting difficult outside school and youngest is getting upset at little things according to her teacher and I'm having to be very careful and consult the calendar daily and the stack of accompanying letters to avoid missing something.

flora717 · 29/06/2015 20:07

I love the holidays - but it doesn't really slow down in this house! All the fun things and actual learning to do and we only have 7 weeks to fit in!

dustarr73 · 29/06/2015 20:10

My kids holidays start tomorrow and I can't wait.I will spend the first few days dossing and then we will have a few trips.

Taytocrisps · 29/06/2015 20:16

My job doesn't finish just because school does. However, I'm enjoying the break from washing uniforms and packed lunches and homework etc. One of the after school activities has finished but the other one usually runs until August.

I'll have a week off in July and a week off in August so I'm looking forward to the break from early mornings then.

ASorcererIsAWizardSquared · 29/06/2015 20:32

our break is nicely split up.. a week to ourselves, then a week when my brother has his children so we'll be arranging some trips out together for them all, or just park/each others houses.
Then DH has a week off work with us, then we get another three weeks to ourselves, then we're going on holiday for the week with DH as ours dont go back until the 9th because of inset days!

shebird · 29/06/2015 20:52

My fatigue is largely due to the endless letters, texts and emails from school about sports days, assembly, trips, collections school fayre, charity days, wear xyz day. I also work so trying to remember all this and find time to attend all the events is almost as stressful as arranging childcare in the holidays.

QueenofLouisiana · 29/06/2015 21:03

I'm so very ready for the holidays, but it's a long slog ahead. DS has a few swim competitions (and training) to get through and a cub camp which I'm going on as a leader.

At work we have the yr6 play, yr6 trip, yr6 leaver assembly, at least 1 inspection plus a couple of monitoring visits....

I may just sleep from July to September.
