Nuisance Cat Thread - what do I do?

Ok, I never thought I should post a negative thread about a cat, but here goes.

New cat in da hood.
Big beautiful black cat. I love cats. I am allergic to cats.

Now, this particular cat is very bold. Other cats are happy to just sleep on the garden bench or on our deck, potter through the garden, but THIS particular cat likes to sneak into my house, and explore upstairs.

I like to keep the garden door open.

How can I discourage this cat from wondering into our house?

Oh God, this was like our cat. She kept going in next door and fighting their cats. One night, when our neighbour was asleep in her living room due to her having a broken leg in a full cast, our cat went in and fought her cats all round her living room. She had to fend them off with her crutches.
I was Blush and offered to buy her a microchipped collar cat door but she said no. Luckily she moved!

Our whippet stops other cats from coming in. Have you considered a whippet OP?

whippet to keep a visiting cat out?

Never thought of it. If we ever were to get a dog, it would have to resemble a bear. We are talking Leonberger here....
And we would have to move to a house 3 times the size, at least, to fit the dog. Grin

Can you just keep the bedroom doors closed while you have the garden door open? We have to wedge the ironing board behind the catflap at night to stop our local tomcat coming in and eating all the catbiscuits then sleeping on the sofa, after he broke the latch from headbutting it!

We use to a water spray to discourage our cats from walking on the counters.

They don't like the spray (although still bloody walk on the counters).

Friend of mine had this, quite an aggressive cat coming in and fighting wuth hers. Shouting, shooing etc no effect. Eventually so fed up being woken by fighting in her own house in the small hours AGAIN she cornered it in the shower and turned the shower on. That did work.

Did the cat move into the area a few months ago?
are you in winchester?

Terriers are good cat deterrents, especially if there's more than one.

Hi Quint

We've started to have this problem. We have two cats and I love having the back door open in this weather - both for us and the cats!

The neighbouring cats don't come into our house, but one of our NDNs is currently looking after his girlfriend's cats. NDN and GF don't live together, but GF is working abroad for a while and NDN is out all day. So her/his cats have started to come into ours if they can see a way in.

I can't, and don't want to, stop ours coming in, but I don't want the other two. I've filled an empty sprayer thingy with water and just squirt it towards them. It's not a jet of water, just a spray. It seems to deter them if they do poke their heads round the door.

Ive seen Jackson Galaxy recommend one of these motion-sensing air spray canisters, could put it by the door? It doesnt hurt the cat, just makes a loud hiss.
