To ask the gardeners to not leave piss all over the toilet?

Ok they haven't done it yet but I want to some how mention it up front (due to past experiences I am expecting it to happen..)

After discussing the work and pointing out the facilities, WIBU to say "and please can you make sure wee isn't left all over the toilet" or something?

If I have to ask them to clean it up at the end of the day is that worse?

They are due this morning so quick replies would be appreciated!

Why not just point out facilities and elaborate with a comment along the lines of 'I'm a bit of a fussy one over hygiene so please make sure you leave the toilet as it is now!'

Inkanta · 29/06/2015 08:41

Gardeners? You're own gardeners? Lucky you!

FenellaFellorick · 29/06/2015 08:45

Do you have young children? How about saying something like "the loo is over here, everyone is supposed to clean up after themselves but please do let me know if it's not as it should be, you know how kids are sometimes."

And have the loo cleaner in plain sight.

That lets them know that people are expected to keep it clean without basically saying you look to me like you're a dirty pig Grin

TheHouseOnBellSt · 29/06/2015 08:48

Marmalade says it well I think. Or you could put a sign up over the loo with "Please leave the toilet as you find it!"

ShimmeringCobalt · 29/06/2015 08:49

I couldn't say anything to them as I'm too cowardly but I'd be silently fuming at having to clean it up! Angry

Contraryish · 29/06/2015 08:52

Our gardeners never use our toilet. I think they use the outdoor facilities!

danceswithcats · 29/06/2015 08:58

Print off one of those twee poems like this about not sprinkling on the seat, put it in a clip frame & hang at eye level, then leave a packet of flash wipes on the side. I wouldn't say anything directly to them... just makes them think that you think they're a skanky puppy, likely to get you off on the wrong foot Confused

To ask the gardeners to not leave piss all over the toilet?
TheHouseOnBellSt · 29/06/2015 09:00

Oh yes! Do get a naff sign like that! And leave a cloth/sponge RIGHT in their eyeline. Or 20 of them!

Hubb · 29/06/2015 09:01

My little one is still a baby so can't use him as an angle! The toilet is the downstairs one that doesn't get used much as it's rather dingy, so I will have to give it a quick once over myself if I expect them to respect it won't i...

I think marmalade is right and there is a much nicer way of saying it.. I won't lie about hygeine though as they will see that is patently untrue Grin

Haha Inkanta I would love my own gardeners ;) but they are just here for the day.

I wouldn't mind if they weed down the back of the garden, but the worst workman etiquette I experienced was someone who pissed in the garden right by the house in plain sight. He was a drunken random my Ex FIL picked up from God knows where though.

I do not think YABU

Its rank . I had a workman here once , used the toilet . . When I went to go he had sprinkled on the bloody seat .

Hubb · 29/06/2015 09:08

With the other thread with so many people complaining about their Husbands and sons peeing everywhere I am reminded that some/most men would need something direct rather than a sign or cleaning products in eye sight sadly!

Angry

I think YABU to assume your gardeners will not be toilet trained.

mindthegap79 · 29/06/2015 09:15

But they haven't actually done anything yet, have they? I think mentioning it would be patronising and rude. I've had builders in my house since October, and the only time my loo has been left in a gross condition was when a plumber friend of ours popped round to help out. Say nothing. It's only one day. Worst case scenario is you clean the loo when they leave.

lk26 · 29/06/2015 09:22

Here we go again manual worker bashing.
I am a gardener of 20 yrs and don't piss on toilet seats at home or work !!
How rude to assume that lowly manual workers would piss on your loo seat.

mindthegap79 · 29/06/2015 09:41

I agree Ik26. Weird rudeness which for some reason seems to be acceptable.

SirPercyPilkington · 29/06/2015 09:47

How odd. So they aren't even there yet and you are stressing about them pissing on the seat?
Is it because they are gardeners or men that they won't know you pee in the toilet?

Hubb · 29/06/2015 11:05

Just want to say that to me it's not just about the toilet seat, it's about there being piss all over the rim which should be wiped up. Not even lifting the lid is out is just criminal but then I think some people lift the lid and think that's all they have to do....

Anyway I accept that I am probably being extra judgemental because they are manual workers which isn't right. I guess I should keep quiet in that case. However I don't think I know any men who get it right so am always expecting the worst. DH knows he should wipe up the piss but often can't be arsed Shock

Me staying quiet and cleaning it up though....now that isn't an option. Why should I clean up another adult's wee?

'Here we go again manual worker bashing.'

I know!!

What a snotty patronising thread!! Grin

derxa · 29/06/2015 12:27

The only thing to do is say nothing. You do want them to come back, don't you? I've just been to quite a naice place for breakfast- there was pee on the seat in on of the ladies' loos. Did I say anything? No.

Plarail123 · 29/06/2015 13:13

My lovely gardener always goes to the pub or just wees behind a bush on the compost! Never once asked to use the loo even when there was a 'tradesman's' loo. (Now house has been redone and that is gone.) Wink

lk26 · 29/06/2015 13:16

If you can afford gardeners then why not give another manual worker a job and get a cleaner too !! Hmm

derxa · 29/06/2015 13:20

Our gardener and his partner are lovely and they do a wonderful job. He would never dream of using the loo. However he could leave a massive shit in the loo and I wouldn't mind.Grin

Inkanta · 29/06/2015 14:34

I'm reminded of what the gardener said to Lady Chatterley - in Lady Chatterley's Lover; -

'And if tha shits an' if tha pisses, I'm glad. I don't want a woman as couldna shit nor piss.'

gobbin · 29/06/2015 14:44

I've just been to quite a naice place for breakfast- there was pee on the seat in on of the ladies' loos. Did I say anything? No

Imagines the alternative scenario
Derxa returns from the toilets: "Oy! Which one of you dirty wenches missed the bloody great hole they were sitting over?"

If only. We're too polite sometimes eh!

Summerisle1 · 29/06/2015 14:48

I do think that if one is so sensitive as to be unable to cope with misplaced sprinkles of artisanal urine in one's dingy, downstairs lavatory then one might be well advised to do one's own gardening. Or bar all access to the 'inside facilities'. At least that way they'll simply piss in your hedge. Which is an organic win.
