for a daily newspaper (The Guardian).
Had not bought a copy in a while so maybe I am behind the times... But seriously? £££!
Surely there must be another way to show my left wing bias!? ????

We went down from a 2 newspaper household (Indy and Guardian) to weekends only to now only when on holiday with no WiFi. Too pricey.

Jinglebells99 · 29/06/2015 07:13

Go to waitrose and get it free, if you spend £5 weekdays or £10 weekends with a my waitrose card. I think that offer is still valid.

AuntieStella · 29/06/2015 07:15

I used to buy a daily newspaper, and a couple of Sundays.

I do still buy, often when I know I'll be hanging around in places where I can't count on signal, as much for the crossword as the content.

Really £1.80? I used to buy it when it was £1. I read the guardian online. I thought everyone will do for that price!

FenellaFellorick · 29/06/2015 07:52

£1.80?

crikey. I thought newspapers were still about 60p!

GoblinLittleOwl · 29/06/2015 08:02

Ridiculous amount of money for a newspaper; I rarely buy the Telegraph now, and that is 'only' £1.40, because I'm sick of paying for large coloured photographs of celebrities and increasingly limited news content and comment.

Klayden · 29/06/2015 08:04

YANBU and this is why I mostly read online now. Shame because I like sitting and reading a newspaper at lunchtime but I refuse to spend the money.

JassyRadlett · 29/06/2015 08:06

Really £1.80? I used to buy it when it was £1. I read the guardian online. I thought everyone will do for that price!

And this probably sums up why the print edition is now £1.80. Grin

GraduallyGoneInsane · 29/06/2015 08:09

If you buy it from a university shop it's 50p. I usually detour past the City centre university on my way into work.

xiaozhu · 29/06/2015 08:10

The Daily Mail website is free.

xiaozhu · 29/06/2015 08:10

(and much more entertaining)

prorsum · 29/06/2015 08:11

Blimey, that is a lot. I did see someone with a guardian cloth bag last week. It was very nice.

missmartha · 29/06/2015 08:12

No, a daily rag, cos even the Guardian is, at £1.80, is taking the piss.

Cheaper to subscribe, we get the vouchers and the full app included. DH won't hear of cancelling it.

snowglobemouse · 29/06/2015 09:01

is it?! Bloody hell. Get it from a uni!

popalot · 29/06/2015 09:01

online papers are free

xiaozhu · 29/06/2015 09:07

No news in the Daily Mail?! But what about all the groundbreaking stuff about immigrants, benefit scroungers, Madiana, things that make you FAT and Kim Kardashian 'pouring her curves' into latex dresses? Not to mention baby bumps and 'endless pins'. If that ain't news, I don't know what is.

fascicle · 29/06/2015 09:09

Preciousbane
I attempt to read The Guardian online but it is the crappiest website ever, not keen on layout and it crashes a lot and takes ages to load.

Doesn't crash or take a long time to load for me. I like the layout, but if I'm buying it, I go for the Saturday Guardian at £2.70 - much more to read and a better time of the week to try and read it.

The cost of the weekday Guardian is still not much more than half the price of the average pint of beer. Or equivalent to the price of a greetings card.

eyebags63 · 29/06/2015 09:15

Not sure I would ever buy an actual physical newspaper these days, unless I was going somewhere without internet and I wanted to read.

The websites are generally better; more content and the comments sections are usually just as interesting as the articles.

But I think YAB slightly U. £1.80 isn't a lot when you consider the amount of paper/ink/distribution costs involved. A typical glossy magazine is about £5 these days.

barbecue · 29/06/2015 09:20

YABU. Everything has gone up in price, and newspapers are no different.

WorktoLive · 29/06/2015 09:20

£1.80 for a daily paper, or half a pint of beer, and especially a greetings card is a lot of money, but for newspapers especially I can see that it will be hard to make a profit when you consider the cost of paper, distribution etc.

I get the Times on a Saturday because I like the food and travel sections.
