She's 20 months. I found a tick after bathtime and took it off not probs.... We have a tick tool as dog is prone to them.
Shes alseep and fine, theres a bit of redness on bite area but no telltale bullseye rash to say lyme disease, although I know its early days.
Its just my past 2 1st aid courses (once every 3 years) have explained that Lyme disease is more common than ever, so i'm paranoid that dd has caught it.
Aibu to want to take her to docs and ask for antibiotics, regardless of whether she has caught it or not?.... The earlier the antibis are ised the more effective they are.

GP here. Would be more than happy to see a child with this. I am always happy to see children, would prefer to see a thousand well ones then that one that didn't come for fear of wasting my time.

I live in a Lyme-heavy area (Connecticut) and the protocol here is to put kids on two weeks of precautionary antibiotics if they have an embedded tick. But Lyme, and several other tick-borne diseases, are way more prevalent here in the US than in the UK.

Lyme disease was first described at Lyme, Connecticut, USA I which named for the English Lyme. Don't worry too much about the tick bite, but they do heal slowly. Lyme is unlikely unless the tick stays on several days. They are very common here, perhaps forty miles from Lyme.

Ok now i'm confused.

I clicked on this as DS had a tick on him. I pulled it out a week ago, but he has fairly short but very thick hair and hates it being brushed. I reckon it had been on him nearly a week when we found it. It was huge, not a small deer one.

I took advice from the pharmacist and have been checking for the red ring.

Is this not enough? Should I have taken him to the doctors? Should I now?

What are the symptoms of Lyme other than the ring?

Thanks all. I dont think the size of the tick matters in the uk. It will have been a sheep tick.

Other symtoms are flu like.... Fever, achy joints, headache x

I'm going to call the gp this morn.! Would rather be over precautious.

How did it go at the GP's?

IUseAnyName · 01/07/2015 22:31

wiggly she ended up with another on her eyelid which was timy so took her to a&e as couldnt get it off safely..... Well it fell off while we were there but nurse said that we dont have any cases of lymes in this area so just keep and eye on her amd report to gp if any signs.
Dd seems fine. Thanks x
