They are obviously having a BBQ and have been just chatting (fairly loudly) most of the night. All fine.

Now that it is later, try are getting noisier and noisier. It isn't just loud chatting and laughing but full blow whoa ho ho or wahey at the top of their voices.

AIBU to think that yelling and screaming at this time of night is rude. These are adults by the way and not kids.

I have had to shut my windows which means I'm not getting much sleep tonight.

Surely now it's later they can move inside. Behind our back gardens are sheltered accommodation.

Do you live near me?! I'm not the neighbour btw. YANBU.

BitchBags · 27/06/2015 23:22

Yanbu. Iv only had one bbq that's gone on past 9 and I asked everyone to come inside at 9.30. I think it's ok as a one off special event but it's polite to warn your neighbours first and try and keep the noise down.

bloodyteenagers · 27/06/2015 23:25

My neighbours have just come out with this little beauty.....

It's fucking selfish to sit out in your garden until all hours making shit loads of noise.... Lots of laughs from their mates.

Said while sitting outside making shit loads of noise. I am 4 floors up btw. Come midnight my flowers will need watering. I am usually a bit more tolerant but 2 nights in a row and last nights beauty included a BBQ at 10:30.

Summeblaze · 27/06/2015 23:26

That's just it. When we first moved in they were having a special event which required them to be outside due to big numbers. My DS2 was only a couple of months old but we chose not to go away for the night and just brazen it out.

There must only be 8/10 people outside but they are making enough noise for at least double that.

What I can't understand is the noises they are making. If it was just chatting and laughing I could just about manage that at this time of night but they are shouting and whooping like 10 year olds at the park with a good measure of swearing too.

A small enough to go inside now IMO.

Yanbu. I hate that kind of inconsiderate neighbour behaviour. It's not difficult to be a bit considerate.

Mypubesarestraight · 28/06/2015 00:12

Go into the garden at 7am and sing the song of your people as loud as you can!

YMCA by the village people! Cracking song.

Notcontent · 28/06/2015 00:13

You have my sympathy. The problem is that when people live in close proximity to each other they need to take that into consideration - but many don't...

SmartAlecMetalGit · 28/06/2015 00:23

Obviously the night for twattish BBQ behaviour.

The two families who live in a pair of semis just down the road from us are having a communal BBQ. They're being nice and quiet, the problem is one family have a dog who they've left shut inside and the poor thing has been howling the house down since before 8pm.

I can still hear it with my windows shut, there's no way they can't when they're sitting right outside Angry

GameOfGroans · 28/06/2015 01:49

YANBU!! This really must be the night for shit neighbours. Ours have only just packed it in after a night of loud talking and screaming like a pack of ten year olds Hmm. Then worse- at about 11 the music went on- followed by extremely loud (and fucking awful) karaoke which made me want to glue my ears shut.

Maybe I could be more tolerant- but at 35 weeks pregnant I'm finding it hard to sleep anyway- and in this heat there's no way I can shut the windows.

Wankers.

6cats3gingerkittens · 28/06/2015 02:31

Our local fuckwits are shouting and singing too,@2.28am! Perhaps I shall send the cats round to fight under their windows tomorrow night. I'm retired and can sleep in Monday, hee hee hee.

IBlameThePenguins · 28/06/2015 03:17

ours started at midday, and have just gone inside, after a taxi stopped outside MY door and beeped over and over a couple of minutes ago!

Would it be wrong to send my kids outside with their musical instruments when they wake at 6? Am having a c section on Tuesday, and could have done with a peaceful one!Angry Angry Sad Sad

Summeblaze · 28/06/2015 07:58

Well I wish I was the only one but seems I'm not alone.

So tired this morning. My DC were up at 6.00 after not going to sleep til 2.00. Was so tempted to send them outside but as I am a considerate person, I did think about the sheltered accommodation people who probably didn't sleep much either.

This was my one and only free night for the next 3 weeks and DH was out and I really wanted an early one.

Why didn't you just go round and ask them to take it inside, and / or keep the noise down?

Beautifulhorizon · 28/06/2015 09:25

You have my sympathies. Not exactly the same I know but there is a pub in my street (it's a completely residential area, in a village) and customers are outside it till late at night in the good weather. They seem to unfailingly be loud, shouting conversations interspersed with MWAH HAHA loud laughing. There is no other sound and the noise of the customers echoes round the street. No consideration for the neighbours at all. Trying to sleep with the windows shut in the sticky weather we are having is no fun and even the double glazing doesn't block out the noise.

Nanny0gg · 28/06/2015 10:48

Beautifulhorizon

Have a word with your parish council who can have a word with the landlord.

Neighbourly consideration goes a long way when their licence comes up for renewal.

DJThreeDog · 28/06/2015 12:02

Well I'm going to go against the grain here.

You posted at 1130 ish on a Saturday night. You don't mention this is a regular thing. One night - and a weekend night - is fine surely? Yes they were being loud but I think if you had asked them to pipe down they probably would have if they are generally considerate. Once you've had a few jars it's easy to not notice your volume increasing.

DJThreeDog · 28/06/2015 12:02

And really really mean to dob them into their landlord for one occasion of rowdiness before midnight!

swampytiggaa · 28/06/2015 12:06

We had this last night. Was really looking forward to my sleep but didn't get much. Even the rain didn't stop them :(

Rotten headache this morning

ZaZathecat · 28/06/2015 12:22

I am on the opposite side of the fence, so to speak.
Yesterday we had a bbq for ds 16th birthday: 8 teenagers in the garden chatting, laughing, occasionally getting a bit loud but all good natured. It was all over by 9pm. At 8 pm f-ing miserable neighbour was shouting over the fence that it was appalling, unacceptable and she would call the police! (Funnily enough the police did not pay us a call).
Btw the garden is 100ft long and tgey were hanging out at the far end. Neighbour had to walk all down the garden and peer through the trees to have a go at them.
Glad that's off my chest.

Beautifulhorizon · 28/06/2015 13:43

Nanny sadly it was the council who granted them permission to expand their outside space a little while ago. We were told commerce over rode the objections of the residential community.

rallytog1 · 28/06/2015 13:52

I feel your pain. Our ndns have gone away, leaving their teenage kids to have a party every night. I'm normally of the 'live and let live' persuasion, but we're on the third night of being kept awake at 4am. They've got form for this - when I speak to their parents the kids either deny it (and their stupid parents believe them) or the parents just shrug as if to say 'what can you do?' Angry

Pumpkinpositive · 28/06/2015 15:07

Once in a while I wouldn't get too exercised about.

I have the neighbours from hell in the flat from hell above me. It's been six long years and I am a stranger to sleeping through the night w/o interruption.

I wouldn't be able to get uptight about someone having the odd noisy barbecue of a weekend night in the summer. If they make a habit of it, that's different. But this seems to be one off.

Chill.

Summeblaze · 28/06/2015 15:15

This isn't an isolated incident. Just the first in a long round of summer BBQ/Outdoor parties. As we are in a detached house I only notice them when they are rowdy outside which only happens in the summer generally.

Its the children of my neighbours who are in their early twenties. All of them are stuck up and think they own the road, snub me in the street etc. Parents were not in.

I didn't ask them to be quiet as it would have been met with a confrontation and I was home alone.

I am all for a party, outdoors or indoors and have had many myself. However, once it gets to around 10pm, I would always move the party inside especially if there are noisy kids or drunk adults out there who are louder than others. I just think that this is respectful. I don't let my kids play outside til at least 9.30 in the morning either.

Saying this, I wouldn't have minded if they had stayed outside just talking even if this was louder than normal and laughing but it was as if they were just shouting out and shrieking for no reason, just to cause more noise. Its hard to explain but I don't spend a full hours shouting whoa ho ho, waaahaaa, wooohooo to my friends.

And DJthedog. It wasn't me who said I would dob them in to their landlord. These people own this house.

I don't think 11pm is too later either as long as it's very occasional. We have. A yearly BBQ and sit outide till late, I'm sure people can here us on that one a casino a year but so what?

My neighbours dog annoys me every day, my neighbours park their multiple cars like twats, my neighbours son smokes weed in his shed.

There has to be an element of live and let live a bit doesn't there.

Summeblaze · 28/06/2015 15:50

But Methe, I'm sure you don't sit outside purposely yelling out random noises. As I've said, talking and laughing and having fun = fine. Yelling out and shouting with no other purpose but to create noise is rude.

This wasn't an AIBU to if they should have a BBQ outside til late. It was purely about the need to just yell and scream for no reason.

I am not a miserable bastard who wants to stop people having fun but this will not be occasional. It's just the start of the summer nights.
