Dh bought kids some profiteroles, dd got them out if fridge and gave one to ds nd when I started eating them they tasted like alcohol so I checked the box and it says contains alcohol on the bloody front!
Ds is 2 and dd is 6. They've both eaten one quite big profiteroles and the chocolate sauce (which also had alcohol in! It's my fault for not checking them but Dh had bought them for the kids so was none the wiser. Will they be ok?

Meh. .. I'll be flamed for this but the only way I can get my 3 year old to do anything is to give him a liqueur soaked cherry inside dark chocolate....

I know. Alcoholic is what he'll become. Hmm

My view is its a phase and next week we'll be back to something normal.

Haha my MIL brought these along for the DC one day, she usually brings them a cake for after tea when she visits, we happily dished them out then when I tasted one it was apparent they contained an extra something Wink too late, DCs had eaten them...they were fine, obvs.

I bought them again today as they are half price in my co op. I may let the DC have one each. Yes I would think if the alcohol content was high I'd have been asked for ID, I usually am for alcohol.

I haven't once mentioned calling nhs direct. They would probably just tell me to keep an eye on them so what would be the point anyway? I hardly think they do stomach pumping for boozy profiteroles. I was just wanting a bit of reassurance that they would be fine. Thanks

Please don't waste NHS time!

They will be fine!

There is actually ethanol (alcohol) in some paracetamol liquids, although not Calpol. The amount is pretty negligible as it will be in this case.

Cross-posted with justonemore. I know you weren't suggesting calling NHS Direct, but I was amazed that others were! No wonder the NHS is on its knees...

They'll be absolutely fine.

Me? I'd be more gutted they'd eaten some and diminished my share, so would be sending DH post haste for more Wink

Ooh half price in co-op you say? Might investigate that

OMG is this actually a co-op marketing thing?

I had some last night (after slimming world meeting) they were lovely and had a lovely pool of chocolate in the bottom of the tub.

Alcohol wise I could smell it but not taste it and am sure op's children will be fine.

There is alcohol in some mouth washes. It's miniscule amounts - please don't worry.

There was a thread last week about Thornton's refusing to sell rum&raisin icrecream to a Mum who wanted it for DD.

I grew up eating homemade Baileys cheesecake, the amount is negligible, it's fine. As mentioned gripe water used to have alcohol, lots of alcohol, way more than the amount used to flavour a little bit of cream.

I bet it was the co-op ones?! I did exact same thing to my then 4 and 3, they were fine, but i'm sure its bloody meths they put in the ingredients, as i tasted thenpm (after dc had finished) and the alchol was vial, i thinks its very bad they dont make it clear on the front that they contain alchol, or on the list of ingredients the alchol content.

The Co-op profiteroles are amazing. They do taste super boozy but barely anything in. And they are on offer at the minute for £1.74. Bargain booze!

Sagethyme · 24/06/2015 17:26

Argh, should read '4 and 3 yr old' and them not thenpm!

Report
Sagethyme · 24/06/2015 17:28

turnover do you know the alchol content? The ones i tried were hideous, but maybe they add a synthetic flavour to enhance the alchol type taste?!

meyesmyeyes · 24/06/2015 17:29

Relax. They'll be fine.

Years ago, people used to put a tot of alcohol into a baby's night time feed to get them off to sleep.
Completely the wrong thing to do by all accounts! Shock
However,
babies survived this 'treatment', so I hardly think a one-off alcoholic piece of food is going to do your two any harm.

I need those.

There will be a teeny amount of booze; the warning is more for Muslims & teetotallers who won't take a drop.

Off to the coop I go!

TurnOverTheTv · 24/06/2015 17:35

I don't Sage but it will be bare minimum I reckon. It will be synthetic, like you say, to make it boozy.
My DH hates them, they remind me of my gran whacking a load of sherry in the trifle!

There will be more booze in 'Top Deck' shandy (0.25%, if interested) than in the boozy profiteroles, so don't worry!

I am quite excited about buying some. Co-op, here I come!

My nephew used to enjoy dipping his dummy in champagne (at parties, I hasten to add). He showed no ill effects!
