To ask if you think Amal was overdressed or did Stella get it wrong?

Back in the days when I had something resembling a social life and not much of one even then I often worried about turning up in the wrong outfit. Under or overdressed, not sure which is worse!

Amal Clooney and Stella McCartney

Daily Mail link and trivial question.

I thik Amal looks much better in her work clothes. I like that she's wearing the same shoes in both pic - travelling light is an art form.

Amal is undoubtedly more glam, but based on that picture alone, I'd rather be in Stella's gang.

Spadequeen · 24/06/2015 19:59

I don't give a shiney shit wether you said it was a trivial question or not. My point still stands, why does either of them have to be wrong?

OttiliaVonBCup · 24/06/2015 20:56

I said it looks wrong.

I think one is trying too hard, and the other one is trying too hard not to try too hard, and that's why it looks wrong.

Just what I think. You don't have to share my opinion.

SouthWestmom · 24/06/2015 20:59

The jumpsuit is hideous and far too tight. Can't imagine a real life person wearing it. Looks like something from one of those cheap shops that appear on the high street for five minutes.

VenusRising · 24/06/2015 21:10

For a fashion designer SMC doesn't seem to have any dress sense at all.

She wears colours that don't suit her, and boxy shapes which drown her, and fugly mannish shoes.

I think she thinks of herself as Amal- olive skinned, tall and willowy, whereas she has a face like a shiny scrubbed tomato and hair she seems embarrassed about, as she never lets it loose, or leaves it its natural ginger colour.

Amal looks like she's still tripping on being a Hollywood princess doll. I think her style is eclectic, but also think she's not in connection with herself enough to know what's her own comfortable style. She always looks too "matchy matchy" and outfitty. She dresses like the picture from a catalogue of a "well dressed person".

Georgiana, I used to have a social life also.. curse you dailyfail

DinosaursRoar · 24/06/2015 21:24

Hmm, that jumpsuit was a Stella McC design, kind of feels like Stella dressed her, then they both went out somewhere together where there were photographers, where the 'story' would be Amal and Stella on a night out. If Amal was wearing a similar outfit from any other designer, then it might just be a "miss-matched night out clothing understanding" but Stella must have known what Amal was going to wear, probably arranged for her to wear it.

This looks very staged to me, and that Stella isn't completely comfortable with it.

whereismagic · 24/06/2015 21:27

I think Stella like all properly fashion people of certain age prefer to dress like a guy with an odd nod to the fact they are women (like the colour of her coat). I think only old or overly eccentric Blush fashion editors and designers are allowed to wear fairly girly stuff.

It's also probably the case they needed to be seen arriving together to avoid the papers chosing to just put photos of one of them in, if the purpose was to firmly make Amal seem a celeb in her own right (not just as Mrs Clooney) who has 'A' lister friends who are her friend, not her DH's, and on the other side, to get her photographed in Stella's design to give Stella some free publicity, associating her clothes with "highly successful career woman, not just famous/rich people" (Amal is rather an aspirational figure amongst bright, driven woman), then this whole thing looks terribly successful!

Ohanarama · 24/06/2015 21:36

Amal looks nice from the neck upwards. Her outfit is hideously tasteless, looks like an 80s stripper. Stella doesn't look dressed for a night out, more of a 'quickly nipping to the local shop, hope I don't bump into anyone I know' old gear.

chaya5738 · 24/06/2015 21:42

Amal has been looking anorexic since she married Clooney. It is painful to see.

Hygge · 24/06/2015 21:57

I don't like either outfit, although if I had to wear one I'd pick Stella's for the coverage.

They don't look like they're going to the same event.

But if they are both happy and comfortable then that's all that matters really.

MindMaking · 24/06/2015 22:01

I don't think she's underdressed at all. Unless you think women should go about in Victorian era crinolines or similar. Its probably a warm night. Its a 3/4 legged sleeveless patterned jumpsuit that covers most of her body. Its not see through.

And she doesn't look gaunt in it either. She has looked a little gaunt recently, but in those pictures she doesn't look at all too thin. I sometimes think some mumsnetters have lost the concept of what a non-overweight woman looks like. Amal looks very healthy in those shots.

orangina · 24/06/2015 22:07

I really like Stella's fugly shoes....

(and Amal is TOO THIN.....)

carabos · 24/06/2015 22:07

They aren't dressed as if they're going to the same event. Stella looks cool, but is dressed for day, Amal looks super-glam, dressed for a night out. Amal doesn't look "anorexic" Hmm, she's very slim, but looks healthy to me.

orangina · 24/06/2015 22:07

They make an odd looking couple though.....

DinosaursRoar · 24/06/2015 22:13

Amal doesn't look too thin, she looks perfectly healthy, although the white suit looks too big for her. (It's a trick posh spice does, wearing clothes a size too big when you are already slim makes you look thinner than something fitted would, Amal looks fine in the tight jumpsuit, but skinny in the oversized suit).

GeorgianaDevonshire · 24/06/2015 22:19

Yarp - sorry, I see you were engaging in the chat as opposed to Snape who just wants to make an issue of it. They are two famous women who wanted to be photographed and it's natural people like to discuss their clothes.

Mind making - it's Stella Mc I'm suggesting might be under dressed, as in not smart enough for the occasion.

Spade is right. Who actually cares what other people wear on a night on?

Duckdeamon · 24/06/2015 22:42
Biscuit
Duckdeamon · 24/06/2015 22:43

That was for the OP.

KayAdams · 24/06/2015 22:48

Stella has children. Amal doesn't.

Stella has people to think of, other than herself. Amal ....

Stella looks like a well rounded working mum who finally wants to wear comfy shoes. Amal is shouting out "Look at meeee, Look at meeeeeee. I'm married to George Clooney and I dont' eat!"

Yes, so Stella looks like she CBA, but maybe she can't. She gets my vote.

GeorgianaDevonshire · 24/06/2015 22:49

Why thank you, Duck, for your contribution to the discussion.

I find Amal rather dull. Are we supposed to be jealous?

Duckdeamon · 24/06/2015 22:53

Biscuit Biscuit

Which biscuit is over/underdressed?
