AIBU to try and make school socks stay white?

Ok, it's a trivial problem in the greater scheme of things but I really would like to put a dirty pair of white school socks into the machine and take out a clean white pair. This is just not happening. The soles are grey tending to black. What makes it worse is that these are my DGD socks and I would like to show my DD that I am a good granny who knows how to launder. Clearly I don't. Advice Blush please dear MNetters.

Justmarried try Glycerin I know it works for blackcurrant juice. Not sure about nectarine but worth a try. You get it in Boots. Rub it in, leave for an hour to work then wash as usual.

Is it warm enough to feed your child the nectarines naked, JustMarried - I mean, the baby, not you. Then sponge off the juice and reapply clothes.

Socks? Heck, what about the bloody white shirt! Socks are cheap to replace, but not the shirt with its logo. Which I am afraid to just bleach, because of the logo.

Double dose of washing powder plus a big scoop of napisan plus 60 degree wash. I've despaired for years about keeping socks clean as mine insist on running around in just socks in the garden and they come up brilliantly
