To want to let my 1yo swim in just a swim nappy?

We were asked to leave our local Council run pool today after a lifeguard ascertained that my 1 year old wearing just a swim nappy was a girl. His explanation was that it 'wasn't fair' and the duty manager came out with the most ridiculous reasoning. It's not disallowed but probably sensible that she wears a one piece just in case there are any paedophiles taking photographs Hmm how would we feel.
If she'd have been in her pirate nappy instead of a flowery one no one would have bothered.
The pool was busy with parents watching swimming lessons so it was really quite embarrassing and I couldn't actually leave because my older DD was in a lesson.
There is a reason for wearing just a swim nappy, because it is a washable one it doesn't really fit under a swimsuit that well and the two fabrics catch each other when wet.

That's utterly ridiculous OP. makes me sad really, the expectation that a 1YO girl should be covered because 'its best for everyone'. And the manager's stupid paedophile comment smacks of victim blaming. Ugh.

Woofers · 23/06/2015 20:54

Get your tits out on the poolside next Time.

To breast feed obviously!

formidable · 23/06/2015 20:55

What the fuck?

I'd have gone apeshit.

Legwarmersforboys · 23/06/2015 21:00

My boy always swims in his sisters pink hand-me down nappy. That would confuse them

UterusUterusGhali · 23/06/2015 21:15

Whut?

That. Is. Insane.

TheTravellingLemon · 23/06/2015 21:17

fattymcfatfat sure thing. But where to build a pool? WinkGrin

ispyfispi · 23/06/2015 21:21

Seriously outrageous for so many reasons ????

Paedophiles only look at images of girls do they?

Absolutely complain

Floggingmolly · 23/06/2015 21:23

They actually said she need to wear a top in case there were paedophiles taking photographs?? I would have insisted on having that in writing, and I'd have emblazoned it on every element of social media I could access.
The dozy bastards!

Idontseeanydragons · 23/06/2015 21:27

Can you see a great big pink bow onto the pirate swim nappy? Grin

Idontseeanydragons · 23/06/2015 21:27

Sew. Not see Blush

gabsdot45 · 23/06/2015 21:49

That is ridiculous. I actually would prefer to see a little girl in just bottoms rather that a bikini. I don't like bikinis on little girls. I think they're too adult.

Koalafications · 23/06/2015 21:56

Sorry, what?

Confused

No, really, what?

Confused

Nope... Still not getting it.

PacificDogwood · 23/06/2015 21:58

Bonkers.

And would have had me fuming.

Make a written complaint, put whatever swim nappy comes to hand on next time and refuse to leave.
What utter fuckwittery Angry

RubyReins · 23/06/2015 22:06

This happened at our pool. Initially I thought the lifeguard's complaint was that the child should wear a costume over the nappy but when boy babies were allowed in the pool wearing only a swim nappy but the girl baby was turfed out, I raised merry hell Grin Not even my kid but I was wholly offended by the pool's bizarre approach.

UniS · 23/06/2015 22:46

Just tell the lifeguard its your other baby next time, the boy baby. Your girl baby is not allowed to swim in just a nappy so you have left her at home and brought your other baby instead.

sashh · 24/06/2015 06:16

I would give them a lecture on how when she is older she might identify as a boy not a girl and accuse them of being prejudiced against trans people.

And then a lecture on how closely was the life guard looking to know she was a girl? And how appropriate is that.

Although I like Unis idea of claiming she is a different baby, say the girl is in the car, let them check your car and then accuse them of losing her.

Nolim · 24/06/2015 06:22

If the policy was that every child needs a swim nappy and a costume it would make sense (to prevent poo accidents). But this is ridiculous.

throwingpebbles · 24/06/2015 06:27

Wtf?! I had a reusable swim nappy for my daughter at that age. It's like a swim nappy and costume (well bottom half of a costume) in one. Ridiculous!!

Plarail123 · 24/06/2015 06:55

Just get a little swim t shirt (rashie) for her, then she can wear the swim nappy without needing to put a one piece over the top.

formidable · 24/06/2015 07:01

^ why the hell should she?

wonkylegs · 24/06/2015 07:21

???????????? wtf!
Absolutely ridiculous

CycleChic · 24/06/2015 07:34

"So let me get this straight, pool manager : you consider the top half of a one year old to be sexual and in need of covering up? "

Siolence · 24/06/2015 07:40

I had this too. Grrrrr. Went with something along the lines of CycleChic.

They stopped. Was annoying and awkward.

LadyCuntingtonThe3rd · 24/06/2015 08:03

Meh? That's ridiculous. Idiots. Grin

whois · 24/06/2015 08:24

What the actual fuck?!? Is this for real? I would write and complain and ask for an explanation/clarification. Then take it to the papers/social media. That is just such unbelievably stupid behaviour.
