To think most people do enjoy a good gossip?

On here, any hint that you might be prone to gossip is met in a very judgemental way.

IRL, the only people I've met who say they object to a bit of gossip are the ones who love it the most. Most aren't spiteful about it, but everyone likes to hear some "news" about mutual acquaintances.

I live in a small town which thrives on gossip, nothing and i mean nothing is secret, everybody knows everyone's business. But of course things get exaggerated.

We have a saying here "if you fart at one end of town you'll have shit yourself by the time it gets to the other end of town"

I love a good gossip.

Thanks Fay. As my mum would say, its sometimes a good job that people don't know what is yet to come.

Same here Pint, the gossipmongers have a fine old time.

I hate gossip, if someone says something to me, I automatically wonder what they're saying about me. I just don't get it, there's plenty of other things to talk about, without resorting to talking about other people behind their backs.

We have friends who are a married couple and the woman told me in confidence about a problem they'd had.

A few months later the man told DP about the same thing. DP came home and told me about it. I said "I know X told me". DP was amazed that I'd known this tidbit and not told him, he just couldn't believe I could keep a secret when asked :o

As I said before I do like a gossip but keeping secrets comes before that.

As long as it isn't spiteful, hurtful, nasty or breaking confidences then I love a good gossip Grin

There's light-hearted gossip (did you know that soandso is having an affair with soandso) and witch hunt gossip (did you know that kid A has hit kid B, I'm going to email the headteacher and tell them that my kid C is unsafe unless kid A is hung drawn and quartered).

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/06/2015 11:49

I wouldn't class gossip about an affair as being light hearted!Shock
