To feel hurt that my lovely dog licking someone caused such distress.

He's just a big affectionate softy, the only trouble is he thinks everyone loves him. We went for our walk this morning in the park and sat down on a bench for a rest. We'd only been sat down a minute or so and this woman sits down next to me. We were just chatting about the weather when all of a sudden she jumped up shrieking, "ahhh the dog just licked my leg"
Now I know not everyone loves dogs but i thought it was a bit of an over reaction. I did apologise but I felt kind of sorry for my dog, who seemed to have a bit of a hurt look on his face. Wabu to have felt sorry for my dog or should I have felt more sorry for the woman?

OP posts:
WixingMords · 22/06/2015 11:42

Cat's theoretical trantula situation is a fair on I think.

Though I still reckon the woman who did not like being licked wasn't hysterical nor did she "shriek". I think she sat down spoke to the OP and jumped up in shock when the dog licked her because she wasn't expecting it.

The OP interpreted it was shrieking and it making Barney sad, and started a thread to put down the woman.

Bet neither the woman nor Barney have thought about it since.

Signlake · 22/06/2015 11:59

People like this are the reason when someone asks if they can pet my dog, I always inform them he's excitable and may lick them

I think the woman needs to get a grip. Dog dribble isn't nice but it's hardly a massive deal

SirChenjin · 22/06/2015 12:05

My Muslim friend has plenty of real problems. She just happpens to believe dogs are impure.

Do you mean - people from the UK with no cultural objections, allergies, fear or a dislike of dogs, , have no other real problems?

Costacoffeeplease · 22/06/2015 12:21

Yes let's muzzle all dogs after their tongues and saliva glands have been removed - even better let's just sew their mouths up

And again we have posts about biting, circling, jumping up, off lead dogs - totally irrelevant to this thread - RTFT and at least the op FFS

keeptothewhiteline · 22/06/2015 12:23

No- lets have a responsible attitude towards dog ownership.

If you don't know how to train and handle a dog then don't have one.

reni1 · 22/06/2015 12:25

Why so hysterical, costacoffee? None of the people objecting to lickery by a dog have suggested this, you seem the one with this barbaric idea I think.

Costacoffeeplease · 22/06/2015 12:32

Actually cutting tongues out was suggested upthread yesterday

I know who's being hysterical on this thread, and it's not me

SirChenjin · 22/06/2015 12:35

One person said that Costa. Why put that extreme viewpoint foward as a suggestion rather than the many others advocating responsible dog ownership?

Mysari · 22/06/2015 12:37

And of course dogs can be trained not to approach people, and in fact to move away from people it doesn't know. There are too many lazy dog owners who give the responsible ones a bad name.

Really??? to move away from people they don't know? All dogs? I don't think so!

prorsum · 22/06/2015 12:39

Oh get a fucking grip on yourself, it was a joke which you joined in on. You and a lot of dog owners on this thread are completely disconnected from reality. Train and control your dogs and instances OP described would not happen.

I had to kick a dog a month ago. I had taken 4 kids to lunch at a cafe in our local park and this dog kept coming over to be fed, despite the owner being a couple of tables away. I asked the owner twice to control dog and keep it away from our table. Owner called dog over but did nothing to prevent dog coming back, dog got a kick. Owner not happy, I told him if dog came near table again I would get a nice piece of wood and use that as well as foot next time. There was no next time.

Control your dogs in public place, let them slobber at home. Simple.

Costacoffeeplease · 22/06/2015 12:41

Because so many responses are so hysterical and extreme - and totally ridiculous

reni1 · 22/06/2015 12:42

I see it was mentioned before, costacoffee, once. You have repeated it 4 times since then. Such inhumane treatment of any creature would never occur to me, weird you want it spread so widely you care to repeat it so much.

Costacoffeeplease · 22/06/2015 12:42

Oh was it a joke? Hard to tell on this thread

What has an off lead dog got to do with the op? Anyone?

Costacoffeeplease · 22/06/2015 12:45

Yes really weird that I should draw attention to it - even weirder that someone else should post it in the first place. I am merely pointing out how ridiculous so many posts are on this thread

We are talking about a lick on the ankle - not off lead, circling, jumping up, biting, bounding, out of control dogs - get a fucking grip

prorsum · 22/06/2015 12:48

reni1Not only has Costa constantly repeated it, it was her suggestion it should be turned into a TV show!

On the lead, off the lead, the point is the same. Train and control your dog. You can't understand that can you Costa? Your dog comes first in all things. No wonder you're so hysterical on this thread. The concept that your mutt might repulse some people has obviously never occurred to you.

I made sure the kids I had care of did not cause harm, annoyance or anything else negative to their surroundings. I realise all people do not find children charming.

SirChenjin · 22/06/2015 12:50

Ridiculous in your opinion.

OvidWasMyFishmonger · 22/06/2015 12:50

prorsum you do realise that kicking a dog for coming over to your table to be fed, apart from being a criminal act for which you could and should receive a sentence, is a completely disproportionate response of a psychopathic proportions?

Your children are going to grow up to be lovely, aren't they?

prorsum · 22/06/2015 12:57

ovid The children will grow up fine as they know boundaries. They saw me politely ask the dog owner to control the dog and watched as dog owner did nothing. They were not comfortable with dog coming to the table. One child was frightened of dog. They saw dog owner do nothing to control an animal that was not behaving properly.

I told the 3 parents of children what happened and they were fine with it. The park has police patrolling and I would be happy to have explained myself to them or in the dock. You think it's psychopathic, I think your response as is bonkers. It's all good. Control your dogs and these instances would not occur. Do you lot not understand that?

Costacoffeeplease · 22/06/2015 13:00

I know that there are a lot of people on this thread that I would actively keep my dog away from - for my dog's sake. I couldn't care less whether people like them or not, but hysterical over-reactions about a lick on the ankle from a calm dog on a lead are just OTT ridiculous and laughable

This thread is not about off lead dogs - feel free to start your own thread on that subject and stop hijacking this one with complete irrelevances

prorsum · 22/06/2015 13:01

Good. Not irrelevant, just does not suit you nutcase POV.

OvidWasMyFishmonger · 22/06/2015 13:02

All your response to me shows is that you're setting a disgusting example to your and others' children, you've a sick attitude and you mix with equally disgraceful people prorsum. I'm pretty sure I won't be in the minority there.

Costacoffeeplease · 22/06/2015 13:06

Irrelevant because it's an off lead dog - this thread is about an on lead dog - sorry you're finding it hard to see the difference

prorsum · 22/06/2015 13:07

You think? Well that's me told. So what if you're not in minority here, all that does is confirm the view I have of dog owners who are clueless. There are plenty of responsible dog owners, I would say most actually, who train their dogs to behave well in public places. This is not a scientifically conducted poll ya know.

I do admit to having a sick attitude, though not when it comes to kicking dogs who deserve it. Perfectly sand there.Grin

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 22/06/2015 13:07

Only dogs with irresponsible owners lick strangers.

Hahahahahahaaaaaaa................ Grin

People like you cheer me up!!

And as for You give decent dog owners a bad name.

I'll tell you something mate, I give people a bad name!! Wink

As this thread seems to be "Eejit Bait" I shall take the dog out for a lick walk and see what happens!!

prorsum · 22/06/2015 13:08

sane I meant. Am having kids after school today, I know, shocking, and collecting gear for sand pit. DOGS BEWARE.
