Tiny fracture in my hand, refuse a plaster because of upcoming holiday

Am i stupid? Nurse says it can heal by itself, but full plaster is recommended.
I am shitting myself here

Icimoi you should never insert things into your cast to scratch. Easy way to break the skin and get an infection no one will see for some time!

I totally understand that fear. I get some v itchy skin conditions (not serious ones) but I would go out of my mind if I had a cast on and could not scratch my skin! I just hope I never break a major bone because psychologically, I'm pretty sure I couldn't cope with a cast!
