to think some people have more human rights than others

BBC news, a suspected Somalian terrorist has had his tag removed as it is against his human rights. Apparently he thinks it is a bomb that could be detonated by MI5.

I think I've heard it all now.

He doesn't have more human rights though does he ? He and his legal team have just asked that one of everyone's fundamental human rights be upheld, in relation to this individuals case.

Have to chuckle at the idea that he would be an inpatient given the acute shortage of MH inpatient beds in this country , plus they would have to consider the safety of the other patients and staff , what with the bomb and everything !

BertrandRussell · 20/06/2015 10:09

"It worries me that suspected terrorists with MH issues could be living next door to me."

And him wearing a tag is going to ease your worries exactly how?

insancerre · 20/06/2015 10:11

Suspected
Not convicted
What does a tag do?
Track his movements?
He knows its there. He's hardly going to incriminate himself. He will just find other ways of carrying out his activities

meditrina · 20/06/2015 10:11

Under Labour's Control Orders you could also be forced to move house, have your movements limited, plus restrictions on who you could meet. Plus all the surveillance, searches of your property without further warrants needed, limits on employments and the ominous "further restrictions"

Moreshabbythanchic · 20/06/2015 10:15

Bert at least I would know that he is being monitored.

FWIW I am more concerned that he was considered to be so much of a threat of being a terrorist rather than he has MH issues.

In this age of so much terrorism going on in the world I think everyone has reason to be worried.

The more you pander to these ridiculous demands the more you'll get. I don't believe for one minute that he thinks he could be blown up by one of these tags. Another example of someone playing the human rights card and the authorities falling for it.

BertrandRussell · 20/06/2015 10:23

Sweetgrape- that is one of the most ignorant posts I have ever read.

ghostyslovesheep · 20/06/2015 10:26

Yeah he's managed to convince all those highly trained medical professionals he's ill Hmm

Moreshabbythanchic · 20/06/2015 10:27

I too had my doubts sweetgrape. If that makes me ignorant then I would rather be ignorant than blown up.

PtolemysNeedle · 20/06/2015 10:28

It's impossible to make a fair judgement about this without being the judge who has access to all of the relevant facts, but if the tag is having such a negative impact on his mental health then it should be removed and he should be monitored in another way.

Maybe this is the sort of thing that would be dealt with differently if we get a British bill of rights instead of using the European human rights rules.

HapShawl · 20/06/2015 10:28

I think some people really don't understand what human rights are

I agree with you MrsDeVere

BertrandRussell · 20/06/2015 10:29

"Another example of someone playing the human rights card and the authorities falling for it."

Go on then. List some more.

Hi MrsDeVere Grin

Human rights exist for the protection of humans. He is a human, agreed?

Moreshabbythanchic · 20/06/2015 10:35

The well known case a while back of a convicted criminal being unable to be deported because he had the right to a family life with his cat!

OP posts:
thecatfromjapan · 20/06/2015 10:39

I was hoping this would be an OP about how it is that some people can be perceived as less human than others and thus not afforded the full complement of human rights. Or how important the human rights charter is.
Perhaps the OP would reflect on the terrible events in Charleston.
But no.
It's Daily Hell shit.
OP, you're a muppet.

Trazzletoes · 20/06/2015 10:41

shabby have you read the Judge's decision in that case? Because, actually, that's not really what it says at all.

ilovesooty · 20/06/2015 10:42

None if us have the expertise of the medical professionals who assessed him or are privy to the facts that the judge had.
Presumably the posters who feel he's played the system would like the Human Rights Act abolished.

thecatfromjapan · 20/06/2015 10:43

The Daily Mail really is a dog whistle for a certain type, isn't it?
I should try it: stand in a shopping centre, reading out some crazy, alarming story about poor people, or 'immigrants', or 'terrorists', or young people - then see who I get. I could have a big van, and load them all in the back. Sell them to be 'swing voters' or television audiences, or something.

Ah yes, the cat thing. Repeatedly shown to be bollocks- but why let th facts get in the way of good story? He wasn't a convicted criminal, by the way, but an illegal immigrant.

BertrandRussell · 20/06/2015 10:52

BBC report of catgate

Lilymaid · 20/06/2015 10:53

If anyone wants to read the judgment of Collins J, it is available on the BAILII website (Administrative Court - DD v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2015] EWHC 1681 (Admin).

ghostyslovesheep · 20/06/2015 11:29

any more? apart from fake catgate?
