To not go to the MIU or is my mum?

Not important in the scheme of things, but very painful!
I've had hard skin on my right heel which has now cracked and split deeply and is very painful to walk on
I thought I'd see if I can get something from the chemist to try and close the split.
My mum (bless her) thinks I should hobble up to minor injuries as it could be infected
I don't like to waste anyone's time especially the NHS but wondering if she's right
Thoughts please

Sanding can make them worse (though they look better!)

Vijac · 19/06/2015 22:06

Yes pp. the cream has to have urea as an ingredient.

Vijac · 19/06/2015 22:07

Haha superglue!!!!

Kundry · 19/06/2015 23:17

Flexitol - you need the 25% urea version, any less will not be enough.

You would be totally unreasonable to go to Minor Injuries about it Shock

The Flexitol will sting like crazy if the cracks are deep but stick it out, it's like a miracle. I had deep painful cracks for a year Blush and they were healed in less than a week and have never come back.

Peepants78 · 19/06/2015 23:29

I agree with other posters, Flexitol is brilliant. I orginally got mine from a dermatologist appointment. It's on offer in Boots at the moment £1 off and buy one get one half price (I stocked up!)
If you are worried about an infection maybe get the pharmacists opinion? Mine are normally helpful

Tricycletops · 19/06/2015 23:47

Yy to flexitol - but be warned, it will burn! It's magic stuff though.

Aliiiii · 20/06/2015 00:52

Thanks all
Will hop down to Boots tomorrow and get some Smile

Once it's healed up, moisturise your feet every night and wear cotton socks to bed to prevent it happening again.

whathavewedonenow99 · 20/06/2015 08:52

Ped Egg - best thing ever. I've also got two of those battery scholl things but they are nowhere as good as the ped egg. It literally works like a cheese grater and the bonus is you get to see all the hard skin that comes off as it collects inside the ped egg and then you just empty it out. Fabulous!

Jellyrain · 20/06/2015 08:52

ROLL UP, ROLL UP!!
Here is the best thing I ever learned on MN Smile

Boots sell Footners Exfoliating Socks, £15 and you wear them for 1 hour, 5- 10 days later- every single bit of hard skin peels off painlessly with new skin underneath. it's disgusting I loved every minute of it I actually felt a bit shorter once if deflaked! Don't do unless you can avoid sandals for a week, you will look like a leper.

Once you have soft skin maintain with flexitol heel balm.

Please get this op, my heel cracks hurt so much but in one month I no longer have any!!

Oldieandgoldie · 21/06/2015 22:57

Flexitol works on elbows too. Smile

SquinkiesRule · 21/06/2015 23:05

I love my ped egg works great. I use Heeltastic if my heels crack. Works overnight with a pair of socks on.

SoldierBear · 22/06/2015 05:59

For immediate treatment I swear by Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream.
And then regular soaking and hard skin removal with one of those scrapers/hard skin removers with a razor that pedicurists use. You can get them in Superdrug.

The foot files, ped eggs etc only take off a very small part of the hard skin.

Then regular moisturising. I love Burts Bees foot cream.

CycleChic · 22/06/2015 06:02

I have form for leaving things infected until I need hospital treatment!
Daft mare!

DisappointedOne · 22/06/2015 07:15

Am amazed nobody has suggested going to see a qualified chiropodist!

Another vote for flexitol. It's the business.

GingerLDN · 22/06/2015 12:23

Make sure you're wearing shoes not sandals. My feet get so dry wearing sandals!

SoldierBear · 22/06/2015 12:42

That is so true, Ginger.
I find the same if I wear shoes without socks.
Could socks be the secret?

Although I once had such badly cracked heels they bled into my socks, but I think they were nylon (back when I was at school, so going to blame DM for bad choice there) Turned out it was actually a fungal infection. It bloody hurt and I had to soak my feet before peeling the socks off gingerly

FiftyShadesOfSporn · 22/06/2015 12:57

I put surgical tape across my cracks (that second 's' is very important!) to stop them flexing open when I stand / walk. it is very helpful

momtothree · 22/06/2015 13:15
