WHY?

I know I am probably BU but I have to vent.

I'm not talking about the milkman whistling a happy tune as he goes about his business...I'm not talking about the woman on the bus who has a little sing song with her baby to keep it happy but about grown women singing "Caauuught in a baaad romance!!" along to Gaga whilst I'm trying to browse in a small charity shop...a TINY charity shop with no escape.

It was the bloody shop assistant....WHY? It seemed almost like she wanted attention! I studiously ignored her. I don't want to hear her moaning off key to the radio whilst I shop!

Enb76 Those of us who don't sing/hum/whistle while out and about are usually thinking. I can't think of a single instance where I've not been thinking anything and thought "I know, I'll start singing!"

It just looks bonkers. It reminds me of people who don't respect boundaries/personal space and come to close to you or strike up a random conversation about something odd, or those people who just stare at you (you know the one - up and down your outfit, then look away, or the glare at your handbag or watch types). I once had someone come up to me, grab my wrist, look at my watch and gasp. Grin it was nice but not that nice.

The problem is that every fucker around you is then forced to stop what they're thinking about because you're providing the backing tune to their life.

ShelaghTurner I'm afraid your DH sounds like me. I like music but I'm always relieved when it's finished.

Sorry, but I'm guilty of singing and- occasionally- dancing in supermarket aisles. Our local co-op used to have some kind of Thursday evening indie disco playlist (think Smiths, Cure, Pulp, etc) and we'd base our weekly shop around it! Made shopping (which I loathe) a lot more fun.

When I worked in a mental health setting, I had several clients who suffered from severe anxiety/social anxiety but found that singing or humming whilst out and about calmed them down enough that they were able to go shopping or take a bus journey. Previously, I found people singing in public infuriating too, but now I've made my peace with it.
