AIBU to wish paying weekly was an option

I am paid weekly and it can be hard to balance monthly payments with a weekly income.

My council tax is taken out of my account weekly, every friday - and this is so much easier than having one week where everything comes out and I'm left with nothing to live on!

AIBU to wish more companies would offer this?

I knew you were going to say that about having £1000!

Though in all seriousness, if average weekly income is £180 and you're unable to save, that means your are spending £180*52/12 = £780 a month, so £1000 actually sounds like a reasonable possibility for what the most expensive month might cost.

Can you ask some companies to shift the payment date? So rent week 1, electricity week 2 etc?
If you normally pay week 4, you might have to pay a full month then two weeks later half a month to shift to week 2 but after that it would be more spread out.

When I was weekly paid, I arranged it so that one big bill (council tax/utilities/rent/the rest ie phone/tv licence/water) went out each week.

Now we're monthly paid and have a little buffer built up, DH and I have a joint "bills" account and we pay the same amount in each month. This covers the total household bills and food, plus an amount for motoring expenses (car tax/insurance/MOT and a bit towards a service or repairs), plus a bit for birthday/Christmas presents etc. This year was the first one EVER where we could actually manage to eat properly in the week the car needed insuring!

Any money we have left over in our sole accounts after the money's gone over to the joint account is ours to do with what we want.

Thanks and mrs this is the issue. I have just had to buy toiletries as we were running low - just couldn't afford any before Friday.

It is, put the money aside weekly and then you'll have it pay bills. What's the issue?

Phone up the companies again and say you struggling to pay bills (even though you not) and you would like to set up weekly payment plan.

I don't know of any companies who would refuse this especially when in debt to them as they rather get something than nothing.

When you say that council tax is taken from your account is that by direct debit? If they can do it I can't see why other companies can't as well.

Very difficult when you're on a low unpredictable income. Is there anyway you could be super super careful for several weeks so you have money building up in your account? After that it will be much easier to keep the cashflow sufficient for the week when the bills come out.

I do manage but there's never any spare - thanks for advice :)
