... to think that the DWP is not fit for purpose? PIP cancelled for no reason.

Hi, DF is terminally ill and entitled to PIP. All confirmed in writing and payments are being made. Then we get a letter to say that as his circumstances have changed, they're cancelling it. But his circumstances haven't changed! (Well, he's more poorly than he was before, but he's still having the same level of care.) I called last month to query, they were hugely apologetic and said payments would be reinstated. They said they'd call with an explanation as to why payments were stopped. Neither promise fulfilled. I called again today and got passed from department to department and was repeatedly told no one knew what was going on or 'we are unable to comment'.

Someone was meant to call me back within the hour and guess what? They didn't bother. He is absolutely entitled to this payment due to his condition, as confirmed by the DWP themselves, his social worker, Macmillan, everyone! Why mess with people's lives like this?

YANBU. They are appalling and would have been shut down long ago if it was a business. They stop payments and leave vulnerable people with no income, but hey they pay it all back in a lump sum several months later when they correct their mistake, so never mind the fact the person is destitute in the meantime.

So sorry your DF is facing this. I agree with PP to contact your MP and the citizens advice bureau.

DWP are utter shite. DH works with vulnerable homeless and DWP are always fucking up and sanctioning people and are always 'losing' his clients sick notes to support ESA payments. I hope you manage to get justice for your poor dad Flowers

I'm sorry you've got this distraction at such an awful time. Hope you get it sorted soon.

BetsyBoop · 17/06/2015 08:12

MP involvement is likely to get it sorted quickest - I used to work for DWP (when it was still DSS so a while ago!) - An MP's "yellow peril" letter about their constituent always got a swift response!

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 17/06/2015 16:18

Still no response from the MP... I wrote to the one responsible for his old constituency and his care home is in another, so I'll try the care home constituency MP today. I'm going for the mandatory reconsideration now - cc ing his local paper and the chief exec.
