with my 10yo bedtimes?

She goes to bed at 8.30pm during the weeknights which I thought of as quite reasonable but now the evenings are so light? I feel like I am putting her to bed in the middle of the day!

I let her go to the local park last night for the 1st time with her friends. It's not far from her house but I am very nervous with her out and crossing roads. (She was hit by a car at 6 years old and badly injured).
She was sue home at 7.30 but then some of her friends came with her and played in our garden until 8.15pm which made me wonder what time do they go to bed if they are only getting in from playing at that time?

Should I be letting her stay up longer?

10yo DS is out playing at the moment, he's been told to be back at 8 so he can shower before bed. Lights out will probably be about 9pm. I'm not overly rigid with those times though because I know he will get up happily at 7 in the morning.

DD (8) on the other hand is a beast in the mornings so her lights out is strictly 8pm for now.

On a school night my 2 (10 & 9) are in bed (or at least in their rooms) by 8.30. Lights out 9pm. So they could easily still be out playing at 8.15 at this time of year. I love it when they play outside til that time as they invariably sleep much better after a load of fresh air. Don't see what's wrong with being out til that time at all.

Wow, what do you all do to your kids to have them tired so early? DS2 is 4 and even after a full 9 - 5 day at nursery is never ready for bed until at least 21:00! He just doesn't seem to need a huge amount of sleep. So I'd say by the time he's older it will be later still. I don't mind though so I guess it works for us. In answer to the OP, is your DC getting enough sleep if bedtime is moved? I guess that is the deciding factor.

Just googled for timing for children in a random boarding school (they are generally v experienced in what works for the majority of a certain age group. Years 5/6 was 8.30pm weekdays and 9.45 weekends!

drc does yours still nap at nursery?

When my dd was at nursery she wasn't napping after about 2.5 but I found nursery was a bugger for not making her tired.

My nearly 11 year old goes to bed at 8.30 during the week. She doesn't have a specific bedtime at weekends though.

Feeling mean here....my dc (9) is usually in bed for 7.15....15 min reading time then lights out. Tonight has been a late one for us, just gone up at 7.45 Grin

Bedtime is around 9pm here and children much younger. They seem fine on 11hrs sleep (9pm-8am).
I find it hard to get them in bed by 9pm tbh in the summer as its so light out and we tend to use that after work slot until bed (6-9pm), to get out and do stuff when it's nice

11yr old go to bed at 9pm and up at 7.
8yr old goes to bed at 8pm and dragged out of bed at 7.15. At the weekends, she's already downstairs at 7 watching TV - funny that!

I like the NHS site for checking how much sleep children need at different ages.
www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Childrenssleep/Pages/howmuchsleep.aspx

I gradually put dd's bedtime later as she got older, but recently put it back again as she was being very grumpy in the evenings. She's 12 years old, has always needed a lot of sleep and is now asking me to wake her at 6.15 in the morning as she has to catch the bus to the next town for school and she likes to get the early bus.

Our new routine is bed at 8.30, a bit of reading time if she chooses and lights out by 9.00. She is usually asleep by 9.15, has to be woken in the morning, but is ready to get up.
Fridays and Saturdays are more like 10 o'clock bedtime.

No naps at nursery. He is not a napper when he's at home either. Just got bags of energy! He is up in time for the day and generally quite happy too.

My 12 and 11 (almost 13 & 12 year old go to bed at 9) my 8 (almost 9) year old and 6 year old are in bed by 8. Fridays and Saturday's are a bit more laid back tho. We have moved to a fairly remote area but before hand the older two had to be in by 8 or before it got dark. Whichever came sooner- obviously in winter it was a lot earlier.
