To think the doctor could do more regarding my chronic constipation??

I went to drs to tell him that my constipation is now so bad that I only go to toilet once a week. This is on a weekend when I take enough laxatives to give myself awful, agonising diarrhea as literally nothing else works. A couple of years ago I ended up in A&E with a bowel inpactation (worse pain than childbirth) so to avoid a repeat of that, the weekend routine is my only option.

His advice?

"Just go to toilet every day and make sure you pass a movement".

???!!!!!!

So after a bit of persistance he gave me prescriptions for laxido, lactalose and told me to drink prune juice and tons of water.

I've been taking two laxido a day, 2 lactalose a day, 2 glasses of prune juice a day and gallons of water. No result.

AIBU to think something more could be done?? even if it was just a colonoscopy to make sure there is no blockage? I can't go on like this.

OP, I also suffer with horrendous constipation. I would recommend you go a good chemist and ask for Ortisan. This is safe and natural and WORKS. You can take a SMALL PIECE off the block every day without doing yourself harm. Don't be tempted to take a large piece, seriously Grin Please try it - it works for me.

A colonoscopy if you are suffering constipation and impaction is a big no no.

Have you tried suppositories? They're in a sort of jelly form, quite cheap from Boots. They work in about 5 minutes flat and because you're not ingesting them they don't give you stomach ache.

Honestly, I'd never go back.
