to go to the GP about this mole? (Pic warning). DM seems to think so...

Drew a line through it to look at symetry etc.

I feel like i've been a bit crap about it as I've had the mole for years but thought the reason it wasn't neat/round anymore and the colour had spread/'bled' outwards and gone patchy was because I'd gotten pregnant and it's on my lower left abdomen.

Then I saw some thing in passing on TV about checking moles, especially with family history/lots of moles/fair skin (I have all three, lucky me Grin Hmm ).

Would it be stupid to bother the GP if I have no other symptoms. I always think better safe than sorry but I don't want to waste anyone's time or be told off either!

Thanks. Yeah I was thinking of just leaving it this morning but am glad I posted. Worth a check like you say. It's not one of the health things you think about much. I suppose because skin makes up so much of you, you can't see the wood for the trees!

My mother got one checked by go who said its fine but she went back as she was still worried as it had changed and was itchy.

She's had a biopsy and needs the whole area surrounding removed now as it was pre cancerous.

TheOrchardKeeper · 15/06/2015 11:57

Sorry to hear that. My gp gap dismissed my worries before about cervix issues and when I was finally referred a year later I had cervical erosion and grade 3 precancer cells that all needed lopping off. So I only go when I feel up to being pushy now! Hmm

Point being I figured he'd probably just tell me it was nothing regardless but I might get a second opinion if he does and it's still changing in a few months etc.

Please get it checked. My nan didn't get hers checked and it was a malignent melanoma, she passed away aged 57, none of us knew or we would have forced her to the GP.

I had one removed a few years ago (it was fine but kept catching on clothes and itchy) and recently went to GP about another, it literally takes them a few seconds to dismiss if nothing to worry about and a quick appointment to investigate if necessary. Your GP will never think you silly to check.

TheOrchardKeeper · 15/06/2015 15:08

Sorry to hear that LisaD1 Thanks

My appnt is on the 25th, got it wrong. I'll just be pushy about it as it doesn't look that unusual but it's changed considerably from what it was etc.

You are right to go.

And really push the point about it changing, maybe bring those pictures with you to explain clearly.

I have had 2 moles removed. The second one was removed just because it had changed appearance in past year. Dermatologist pretty sure there is no problem but gave me option to remove it. I haven't got results yet...

I too felt silly going first time, but doctors response was to refer me to Dermotologist because I had so many moles, all different shapes and sizes. So it was the right thing to do.

Don't mind your Mom!!

Some pharmacies do mole checks - supredrug and boots I think.

I'm not moley at all but DS has one the size of a, well furry creature mole, on his belly (below the belt li be so never exposed to sunlight). I felt like such an arse when I took him to the doctors and told her 'he's had it since he was a baby and its getting bigger'. She pointed out that he was also getting bigger.

Always best to check these things.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 15/06/2015 17:54

I got 2 moles checked last year because my mum had skin cancer after a cancerous mole wasn't removed correctly. Turns out they're fine but it's always best to be reassured

TheOrchardKeeper · 15/06/2015 18:58

Thanks. Yes I tried our local Boots earlier because I'd read they can do it but the bloke there said they don't in that particular store. I've got that appnt though so will just push Smile

I'm also waiting for smear results after my LLETZ (for the ore-cancer stuff) so hoping I don't come off like a hypochondriac at the appnt. It's been a weird year Grin Hmm
