To ask how many of you have actually vomited with a stomach bug/norovirus?

I have had countless stomach viruses over the course of my life. I've known they were stomach viruses because everyone around me also has them. The symptoms have always been diarrhea, stomach cramps, temperature, feeling like utter shit, nausea but no vomiting.

My DH, my father, my BIL and my FIL are the same (we've gone down with it as a family before.)

I heard it's something to do with being a secretor or a non secretor (don't ask me what that is) but if you are a non secretor, you are apparently more likely to have blood type B or AB which gives you increased resistance to norovirus. And if you do get it, less severe symptoms.

What are your experiences?

I'm B- and generally very pukey.

Loads of things make me sick: stomach bugs, other illnesses like tonsillitis and the flu, too much alcohol, smoking weed (maybe I shouldn't admit to that, it was a long time ago), thoughout pregnancy, all the way through labour, travel sickness, after an operation, when I faint (has only happened a couple of times).

So DH has seen me puke 100s of times, but I've only ever know him to vomit once - he's A+
He does get the shits though and I don't.

O-
Cast iron stomach so very rarely vomit.
Am quite good at getting the shits though

BalloonSlayer · 14/06/2015 22:24

I am O+ and don't get many stomach bugs. I have had DCs spitting puke into my face and think "oh blimey I am SO going to get this!" but nah . . .l

There is no pattern to it when I have though. In the five I have had in the last 35 years, it has been:

  1. Age 15 - vomiting only
  2. Age 24 - vomiting followed by diarrhoea 2 days later, may have been prawns rather than a bug
  3. Age 35 - can't remember, except may have been prawns again
  4. Age 36 - diarrhoea only (but baby DS1 who definitely had the same thing - caught in hospital Angry - had only vomiting) Worst I have ever felt but maybe because I had a bf baby who kept chucking it all up as well.
  5. Age 48 - vomiting only.

The last time I had anything, someone said it sounded like the norovirus. I had one most awful bout of uncontrollable puking that was like nothing I've ever had. I think I threw up 12 or 15 times, but just on the one occasion. Felt ill and weak and achy the next day with awful backache. Felt weirdly uninterested in food for about a week (a bit like early pregnancy).

I'm AB+ and I vomit for about 12 hours between 3 - 5 times an hour whenever I get stomach bugs. I had terrible morning sickness and am generally a rather pukey person. It is not pleasant!

I'm O- and have had anxiety-related vomiting and diahorrea all my life. If I'm very stressed it presents as DV, If just mildly anxious D only.

When I have a non-nerves related stomach upset (which also happens at least three times a year), I usually have trouble working out which end to point at the toilet.

FindoGask · 14/06/2015 22:43

O+ and a rare puker here when I get a stomach bug. More cramps + nausea.

NormaStits · 14/06/2015 23:31

O+ and when I had norovirus I projectile vomited and diarrhoeaed simultaneously, repeatedly. Fortunately we have a sink next to the toilet.

DJThreeDog · 15/06/2015 00:13

Never. I am rarely sick. Only during very severe migraines or after imbibing slightly too much.

If I ever get a dodgy tum, it's always of the shits variety.

I think I'm type A. Either A or O, one of the common ones.

Had a stomach bug kick in with 3 hours to go in a transatlantic flight last week. I usually only ever puke from way too much drink, but the plane circling over Heathrow was enough to release the hounds on this occasion, followed by a repeat effort not too long afterwards into a bin in Terminal 2. My hubby had the same thing three days before and managed to projectile vomit off the top of the boat to Alcatraz.

Blood type A+.
