Instead of listen to my next door neighbour's party that's been going on since 2pm?

There's loud music going on in the garden that I can hear quite clearly in the house despite all double-glazed windows being closed. People shouting. I've been round once already because there were people shouting in the room that shares a wall with our bedroom. I can hear the children stirring in their sleep because their rooms overlook the garden. Sleep's a lost cause for me.

What the bloody hell can I do?

Ring the council? Although if it's anything like round here you might struggle to get an answer Sad

HelenF350 · 14/06/2015 02:48

Ring the police if the noise is that bad. Not much else you can try if you've already been round there.

DarthVadersTailor · 14/06/2015 02:48

Ring 101.

niminypiminy · 14/06/2015 02:56

Been round again and asked them to turn the music down and keep the noise down.

Music's been turned down but the level of shouting is unchanged.

Music's gone up again. Environmental health are now on their way.

If this is a once in a blue moon I would let it slide for 1 night, however every Saturday to early Sunday morning I would get the police involved by the non emergency number.

niminypiminy · 14/06/2015 04:05

Well. I called environmental health, and the guy came round, and said he'd never heard such a loud party and why did I wait so long? The police have just arrived and he and env health guy have gone to serve a noise abatement order, which means they can be prosecuted unless they stop the noise.

Is this a one off

justyeh · 14/06/2015 07:32

When you start getting authorities involved this is when the anti social behaviour turns to much more than noise, every little thing will now be magnified. In my experience the only punishment you can give inconsiderate neighbours is the same they give you, maybe noise whilst they are sleeping off a hangover...mower...Hoover...drill...noisey kids...banging a hammer on their bedroom wall cos your putting up shelves...give back what they give out.

Was this a one off OP or is it every weekend?

cariadlet · 14/06/2015 07:42

Even if it was a one-off I don't think the OP should have let it slide. That was a ridiculous time to have music blaring and to be shouting loudly in a residential area. It's good news that environmental health and the police took it seriously.

chrome100 · 14/06/2015 08:08

If it's a one off I wouldn't mind. Parties are fun and a bit of disturbance every once in a while is fine. Every weekend would be a bit different.

niminypiminy · 14/06/2015 08:10

We've had to ask them to turn music down before, and a couple of weeks ago one of the kids was shouting obscenities at the top of his voice in the front garden for about half an hour at midnight. So not totally a one-off.

There was still shouting going on at five o clock, but by half-past five it was finally quiet enough for me to go to sleep. I don't think the answer is to retaliate -- why stoop to their level? and I don't want to get into a state of warfare. The party's over, let's hope it stays that way!
