To think Hay Fever is the most inappropriately named condition there is...

Apart from the fact that actually, im not even allergic to hay anyway Hmm

"hay fever" sounds pretty innocuous - it sounds like i might sneeze a little and get the sniffles if i stand in a field full of hay or have to clean the rabbit out.

What actually happens is for me (for others its actually longer and worse) is that for pretty much the whole of june/july I walk around in a haze. Sore throat, sore eyes, streaming nose, aching like i have the flu, looking like something out of Shaun of the Dead. I feel really really unwell, and the anti-histamines don't really help they just make my head even more foggy than it already is.

I had to make my excuses on a night out tonight - I can imagine my friends faces look Hmm because my reason was hay fever!!!

Please can someone think of a more appropriate name?

Seasonal allergic rhinitis just sounds like a grow a huge nose once a year and its not just my nose, its my eyes, my throat, my joints and everything.........

I haven't felt too bad this year - is the grass pollen season late starting? Normally I'm on two Cetirizine tablets in a morning by now, wanting to scratch my eyes out and sneezing like a b@stard until they kick in.

I had it when I was a kid, then seemed to "grow out of it" (how?) then we went on holiday seven years ago and came back to hayfever which I have had every year since. Any chance I might "grow out of it" again?

Grass pollen season is just starting up now according to my sinuses bantam. I'm severely allergic to grass pollen and mildly allergic to tree pollen. This time of year is hell for me.

Oh I'm quite envious of you atissueplease.(of the therapy of course)
Tbh the gps have never ever even mentioned immuntherapy (I've heard about them though) so I doubt I would get it. Just had the latest allergy test, I'm allergic to everything bar feathers. Trees, grass, cat, mould, dust mites etc...

LEM I'm pregnant and have hayfever. Mine isn't as as bad as it could be here in London but we went away to a rural location last month where they'd just cut a lot of grass and ho boy was that fun!

Wheezing, streaming nose, itchy eyes AND ears (it's itchy ears that I hate the most!) plus a gazillion full-body sneezes. Sometimes I couldn't even catch my breath in between sneezes! Oh and nose bleed from excessive blowing.

Can't take meds either as GP said i shouldn't if I can help it!

Thanks for the info.
I'm going back to see a doc at the ENT and ask him about it. Asthma also runs in the family and a full on hay fever attack makes my lungs very itchy and I wheeze at nights.

im miserable with it tonight. cant sleep. Sad

My GP has prescribed me some Levocetirizine, has anyone else tried those?

And, has anyone tried one of those hayfever machines that you stick up your nostrils?/
