I know it's a bit 'how long is a piece of string' type question but if anyone has any tips I'd be grateful.

Looking for a traditional, country kitchen style, cream cupboards, wood (or wooden style) work surfaces etc (you know what I mean I'm sure).

Wondering if anyone has similar and could give me an idea of how much they paid and where from.

Kitchen is mid-sized.

Thanks!

We moved to a house with wooden work tops & I hate them. Really hate them.

Custard have you priced up what you want at DIY kitchens? They have exactly what you are looking for and come well recommended on here.

cream doors, laminate flooring, laminate wooden worktops (so they wouldn't get chipped), sink, taps was just under £500 and my dad installed it all. Didn't put whole new cupboards in though as no need.

it can be as cheap as you need it to be.

Under £1k.

Kitchen units from Wicken Take Away Kitchens range.

Tiles from Al Murad - better quality, a better range yet better value than the big name tile places IME www.al-murad.co.uk/

Free granite floor from a friend's stone mason boyfriend Grin (off cuts from a massive job).

My top tip for cheap bathrooms is go direct to where the trade people go.
if in London, there's a great trade bathroom shop at the Archway end of Holloway Rd, that also.sells to the public. Our toilet cost £45!

There is an article below that talks about "How much should the average kitchen cost". It's a good starter for getting a rough idea and price for the types of units that can be used. advice.diy-kitchens.com/customer-questions/how-much-should-the-average-kitchen-cost/

5k for our large-ish kitchen, including tiles, American fried freezer, built in washer/dryer and dishwasher and large oven. We bought kitchen from Ikea and fitted it all ourselves, really easy and looks fab :)

maninawomansworld · 16/06/2015 22:40

We had a custom, handmade job by and all in all was £30k not including the oven (kept and refurbished the range that has been here for 30 years as it was nearly £20k to replace like for like).

Big room though - about 40 x 40ft

5Foot5 · 16/06/2015 22:54

We are getting ours done this summer. The quotation is £18K+.
That is for a traditional style painted wood units, granite work surfaces, new range style cooker, new flooring, ceiling, lights, ceramic sink and all painting and decorating.

£7,500 for units, breakfast bar, worktops etc. plus integrated dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer and built in microwave.

Big kitchen, solid wood shaker units ready built.

Fitted by DP as he is a joiner/carpenter. Came from Wrens....very pleased with it.

stairbears · 16/06/2015 23:42

About £500 from Wickes and a handyman to put it in... Everything for under 1K I think, inc 2nd hand cooker... Astounded by some of these figures!

Nearly £18 k for a small-ish kitchen in a flat in London, OK that included a new boiler and all new appliances, but I nearly died from shock when I got the final bill. It has lasted v well over the past 10 years with various tenants though.

I've just been quoted 10.5K from Magnet, and 11.5K from a local builder (SE London) for a mid-range kitchen with appliances and fitting, but not including tiling/decorating.

Szeli · 17/06/2015 00:27

I think ours was around £500 but that was without appliances or fitting
