Tell me the stories of the best holidays you have had in the UK, preferably with a modest budget (under £500 for 6 nights)?

I want lovely destinations packed with family fun and preferably not a city.

It really depends on where you want to be. I have had some great bargains for under 500 at Haven and other independent static caravan parks. Camping has also been super cheap. If you look about you can get a second hand trailer tent in reasonably good nick for around 250.

Groupon/Wowcher/Living Social/Amazon Local have kind of dictated most of our trips over the last few years, because I have had so many bargains off there, I refuse to pay full price.

North Yorkshire - if you have a car I recommend finding a cottage outside of the main seaside towns (eg nearby village) and driving to different beaches each day. You can hire a cottage for less than £500 and then your costs will be as per a week at home bar spending money and the odd pub lunch :-)

I recommended Whitemead forest park to someone on here a couple weeks ago and they seemed impressed enough with it to book it. Have a check, it's great!

Thorpe Park in Cleethorpes on a Sun holiday. We (me ans DH) dont usually go back to the same place as we think there are too many places to explore but we would happily go back here. Mainly because the surrounding area was lovely and clean with lots of nice little parks and the beach close by

Another vote for North Yorkshire. We've stayed in or just outside Whitby 3 times and Robin Hood Bay once. Beautiful beaches, great body boarding, cliff walks, crab fishing, sea side tat (which my DCs love), fantastic fish and chips and no distance to beautiful empty moors for fantastic walks with unusual pubs at the end. We've stayed in cottages for not too much and taken our caravan. Have been to lots of places in Europe but if given a choice DCs and DH would choose Yorkshire coast every time.

Went yearly as s child, returned with my own kids. The more basic lodges are £5-600 in school summer hols for a week.
