Snotty work emails are counter productive

Some individuals it seems to be their favourite way of communication. Often its overzealous people that are trying to stand ground.

Aibu to think they just don't achieve anything? Even when someone does make a mistake I would never dream of copying in countless people and having a go at them to publicly shame. What I find best is a quiet private word and giving knowledge as mostly it's due to lack of understanding.

Sending a patronising email ofen makes the sender look silly, especially when it turns out they are wrong or was caused by them. Finding blame rather than improving processes seems to be very popular.

Yokohama those emails with the 100-long reply chain also always include one email about 1/3 of the way in that had an attachment that you need to complete the task. And the only person on the list you actually know is your boss, and he's on a plane...

I've not long quit a job though where all the nastiness was done by phone. On balance I think I prefer being yelled at by email: I worked in a cubicle farm, so felt inhibited from handing said phone yellers their arse in a paper bag in exactly the way I would if I wasn't overheard.

Chill your beans Findo, it's a turn of phrase, I didn't mean I was whipping them with chains in a back office Grin

I just meant (in a shorthand kind of way) praise in public, but address any individual shortfalls in private. I one had a manager who used to bollock, for want of a better word, people in front of the whole office - embarrassing and unprofessional.

Love the "handing them their arse in a paper bag" quote though, maybe I should have said that!

I also detest any work emails with the subject line "polite reminder", this usually translates to either patronising micromanagement or public blaming.
