Nespresso coffee - is it all horrible or AIBU? Alternatives?

I've had the machine for a while and tried lots of the varieties of coffee.

I hate it all! I don't take sugar in my coffee but it takes like it needs sugar or that something is missing from it.

I find it really horrible.

Is there an alternative I could try?

I just want to be able to make a nice latte Sad and the bloomin machine was a fortune

If you don't like strong coffee you should try the lighter coloured pods. Generally the darker the colour of the pod the stronger the coffee.

Nestle + baby tears - Google 'Nestle baby milk scandal'

chicaguapa · 09/06/2015 13:28

Thanks SqueezyCheeseWeasel. We really didn't want to keep it as I boycott Nestle and the gift giver knew that but wanted to ensure they had a 'decent' cup of coffee when they visited. I had a thread about it at the time. Grin

The Dualit ones are at Costco and we don't like them very much. Everyone has different tastes though. I'm glad there are lots of alternatives.

Moka pot and lavazza coffee?

motheroftwoboys · 09/06/2015 13:31

I think you are BU because I LOVE my Nespresso machine but it is all down to personal taste. I prefer the intense coffees like Ristretto and Arpeggio. The flavour descriptions and groupings on the site are very informative. Mainly prefer espresso but make a fab flat white using two pods and the milk frother, better than anything that most cafes will serve. Have tried some alternative pods but I found them horrid in comparison to the real thing. I also use an Italian stove top and a cafetiere depending on how many people I am making coffee for.

Only on Mumsnet would you find people hand wringing about buying a
coffee machineSmile
We have a Tassimo machine as well. Different style of coffee from the
Nespresso. Love the Latte macchiato from the tassimo.

BritabroadinAsia · 09/06/2015 14:25

I was told today by an Extremely Healthy Person that Nespresso coffee was both highly toxic and disgusting, as the aluminium from the pierced pods ends up tainting the flavour of the coffee, and undoubtedly causes untold damage to whatever aluminium damages. (Brain?)

My taste buds clearly aren't that refined. Do all pod brands use aluminium capsules?

Wotsitsareafterme · 09/06/2015 14:31

Handwringing because there has been a boycott against nestle for about 30 years because they cause infanticide in developing countries.

But anyway I really want a pod machine for my caravan so watching this thread.

UmmErrWhateves · 09/06/2015 14:41

I love my nespresso machine and I like the coffee My machine only cost £79 including £50 worth of coffee pod vouchers and a free frothing machine. It was a bargain. There are so many pods to choose from there must be one that you like.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 09/06/2015 16:20

We also love our Nespresso machine, but we were able to try it out in the Knightsbridge store before buying so we were sure we liked it first. Had ours about 10 years now. They even converted me and I only like lattes.

The lighter capsules are nice, I like a latte with the Dulsao do Brasil or the Volluto ones. I also get the 4 strength capsules from Lidl too. Lots of supermarkets sell compatible capsules now as well.

Have you tried the caramel infused I drink black coffee with sugar usually but with this variety I don't need sugar.

TheSkiingGardener · 10/06/2015 08:00

If you like instant then stick with it. My mum is the same. She doesn't drink fresh coffee and I don't drink instant, they taste totally different.

bottleofbeer · 10/06/2015 09:41

Forget pod machines altogether and just get a 15 bar pressure machine. Much cheaper to run, much more choice and they even come with a little frothing arm. You can get very decent ones for under £100.
