To think ponies don't belong in upstairs flats?

CatthiefKeith · 08/06/2015 18:24

I have just read a post on my local FB page a post about a horse being ridden bare back through the local town.

The thread then details with people asking if that's the horse that lives in an upstairs flat in xxxxx town. Apparently it is derelict and someone keeps their pony there.

Then the owner rocked up and said yes, it was fine, she'd phoned the RSPCA and there was no problem.

Really? Surely horses need to graze?

This is from a Douglas Adams book surely.!

They are all very confused about what a horse is doing in an upstairs bathroom IIRC

DocHollywood · 08/06/2015 18:55

If it's a racehorse it probably prefers the flat.

DocHollywood · 08/06/2015 18:56

I was trying to think of that book! Was it long Dark Tea-time of the Soul?

Lookoutapiano · 08/06/2015 18:58

Please call the rspca :(

vindscreenviper · 08/06/2015 18:58

Grin Doc

CornChips · 08/06/2015 19:00

Yes, pls call the RSPCA. That is outrageous, and there is no way they would have told anyone 'oh sure, keep the horse in a derelict flat upstairs, that's fine'.

CatthiefKeith · 08/06/2015 19:00

It's a closed group with 3000 members but I have asked for them to be deleted anyway.

As usual I didn't engage my brain before posting.

Back in the 1980s, I worked with kids in care and a social worker told me he had visited a flat in Peckham and there had been a real life pony in the flat.

True story.

SylvaniansAtEase · 08/06/2015 19:01

Horses can't get down stairs, no.

Perhaps she has a block and tackle?

CornChips · 08/06/2015 19:02

I once lived in a second floor flat and the flat above me had sheep on the balcony.

They were for slaughtering though. That was fun. Hmm

truly though, pls call the RSPCA. You can give them names and everything now, it's serious maltreatment.

CatthiefKeith · 08/06/2015 19:03

I've already reported it to the RSPCA. They were spectacularly unhelpful, since I don't know the address of the house.

Apparently they can't act on hearsay.Hmm

Evening all. Just a note to let you know we've deleted some pictures that were linked to here at the OP's request as they contained personal data. Sorry about any holes in the thread but we think you get the gist.

CatthiefKeith · 08/06/2015 19:04

Flat, not house, sorry.

I did email them my screen shots, but they didn't seem remotely interested

My Great Grandfather used to keep a horse in the back garden (tiny terraced house in Fulham) and bring it through the house to get it hitched up to the cart out on the road, then back through the house when he/they came home.

He used to have a go at GGM for polishing the hall floor too much as the horse used to slip on the rugs. This was the 1900's.

CatthiefKeith · 08/06/2015 19:05

Thank you Iona.

EponasWildDaughter · 08/06/2015 19:06

Oh, and there was a few steps half way up the hall way.

CornChips · 08/06/2015 19:07

God Cat. Angry

Call the non-emergency police line, is it 101? I know some people will come along and lambast me for wasting police time or whatever, but to be honest, I think a horse in a flat is of concern. Not least because big animals in confined spaces can be a danger to themselves and humans too.

Sandunesaltyair · 08/06/2015 19:08

I know you have had them removed CatThiefKeith but I saw the pictures and am very cross two posts one of my friends made in a closed group have been plastered on here!

Please think a bit more in future?!

Lookoutapiano · 08/06/2015 19:08

By the way horses can go downstairs. Think you're thinking of cows!

CornChips · 08/06/2015 19:08

[just to say the angry face was against the RSPCA not you, Cat. ... to clarify... ]

CornChips · 08/06/2015 19:11

Good, Sand do you know if your friends know the people who have the horse then? can they actually help? The screenshots seemed to indicate the horse was living with somebody's daughter and granddaughter.... (from memory). A horse in a flat with children is not a great idea.

Littlecaf · 08/06/2015 19:19

"You're not taking that up in the lift?"
"I have to. The stairs 'll kill 'im"

Wonderful scene.

CatthiefKeith · 08/06/2015 19:19

There isn't any one in the flat by all accounts it is derelict.

And it is a closed group, not a private group.

Dirk Gentley's Holistic Detective Agency I think...

Mavisblewitt · 08/06/2015 19:33

Reminds me of the commitments where they ask the kid if he's really bringing the horse in the lift
"Well sure I am - the stairs would kill him"
