To be highly irritated by neighbour that keeps displaying banners outside their house

A neighbour on our road displays a banner on their house almost all of the time with a written message. Their supposed to be 'humerous' messages but make the area seem downmarket and it's less than salubrious as it is.

People in cars can read them and there's been accidents on the road before because people are rubber necking as they go past.

Every time a new msg goes up i get a batshit rage come on and have plans to get a ladder in the night and rip the fucking thing down.

Seems churlish not to mention you yourself spelled 'humorous' wrong, OP Wink

I think report to Local council

conniedescending · 07/06/2015 19:02

Well yes that link is the house....although it's banners now rather than the van and has been for ages. I'm outed now!!!!

Yes it is churlish to mention spelling! I'm on an iPad on the internet not painting signs that half the county will see on a daily basis.

CoogerAndDark · 07/06/2015 19:03

that's really odd. I'm sure it's some kind of offence to have sweary banners on display.

conniedescending · 07/06/2015 19:04

I also typed their rather than they're in case anyone else is desperately looking to point score?

I'd complain that you found them offensive, that might work... Anything to get rid.

Bet he's a hoot at dinner parties.

emmelinelucas · 07/06/2015 19:04

It is alright, all this eccentricity live and let live and all that , but I am glad I don't live next door

Lookatmyredtrousers · 07/06/2015 19:06

No way would the police allow it of they'd caused accidents

SnakeyMcBadass · 07/06/2015 19:06

How odd. Do you know the residents?

ghostspirit · 07/06/2015 19:07

are there not banners ever where though..ie to advertise fairs/fetes/boot sales and what ever else.

Clarella · 07/06/2015 19:10

I've watched the YouTube link; the end is a little worrying mh wise of its the same house. Yes I'd be annoyed by the signs, but a wee bit tricky to know how to address it :/

Clarella · 07/06/2015 19:10

Spelling irritates me the most.

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 07/06/2015 19:11

How many mumsnetters live up this road?!

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 07/06/2015 19:11

The banner don't cause accidents, people should concentrate on driving and not reading a banner on a house.

It would drive me insane if it was my neighbour

Clarella · 07/06/2015 19:17

I think watch the YouTube clip (if it's the same house?! ) and then the one he's linked to it. It's a tad worrying and alludes to suicide if it were not for the harekrishnas and his 'sense of humour'- which he says are his signs.

It's a tad concerning imo. From a how to tackle it/ do you leave it pov.

SlightlyJaded · 07/06/2015 19:19

The problem is that kind of person who puts a banner like this up, is clearly a bit bonkers. They are not going to respond reasonably to a letter signed by a few neighbours saying "please don't".

They might not be unpleasant but they won't give a flying fuck.

I think best bet is to be friendly for a while and then try and have a reasonable conversation about it face to face.

Something along the lines of - good for you/freedom of speech Blah blah but also please bear in mind traffic congestion and kids reading swear words.

See if you can appeal to their better nature. Much easier if you have been friendly beforehand.

FWIW they would give me the rage too.

Notthecarwashagain · 07/06/2015 19:23

I knew this was going to be Leicester.
The man that changed his name? (pppp?)

Some have been mildly amusing to me, but I don't live next door. Must be very irritating! YANBU.

Hobby2014 · 07/06/2015 19:26

Did anyone else watch the nestle video afterwards? I quickly scrolled through. All I can say is - Vom

Notthecarwashagain · 07/06/2015 19:27

He actually posts some really supportive stuff on fb, particularly in defence of lone parents.
I don't know him personally, but doesn't seem like a horrible person.
Again though, I don't live close by, so easy for me to say!

Flossyfloof · 07/06/2015 19:28

I don't live on the road in question but I have often seen the banners!

Fishlaar · 07/06/2015 19:46

I just knew it would be that house.

If I start seeing anti Peter Soulsby messages I'll know you haven't had much luck with the council.

Tiswineoclocksomewhere · 07/06/2015 19:56

Haha as soon as I saw the op I wondered if it was that house! I only pass it every now and again - usually when one of my kids has an away game at the nearby football club Wink

Icimoi · 07/06/2015 20:29

Don't you need planning permission to put up banners like that?

MerynFuckingTrant · 07/06/2015 20:43

I just googled the bloke, he seems nice but a bit unusual. Wouldn't mind if he was my neighbour.

Fluffcake · 07/06/2015 20:46

The bad grammar would cause me to crash and what if your "just learning to read" DC said "mummy, what's a wanka?" Whilst you were driving by. I'm surprised there are not more accidents.

FryOneFatManic · 07/06/2015 21:09

I've seen the banners just a few times, when diverted on the drive to/from work, usually I go another way. I can see how they can be distracting.
