To lie about dcs' ages?

We went to a pool we'd never visited before and it was lovely. However, there was a rule that all dc under 4 must wear swim nappies. Dtds are 3.9 and have been fully potty trained since 2.2. Obviously I know this isn't true for many dc but we don't even own normal nappies so hadn't taken any swim ones. Never occurred to us. Family in front were told about the rule so when the lady told us I said they were 4.

Really I'm curious if anyone else has come across this rule? I've seen signs saying unless dc are fully potty trained please use a swim nappy but dc under 4? I'm not sure how dtds would have taken to me trying to get them into nappies.

I remember in the baby pool at my local pool I used to swim really close under water to poos on the pool floor because I thought it was fascinating what the water did to them.
But I was a bit odd.
Still alive though.

I've been to a pool once where there was a sign saying under FIVES had to wear a swim nappy. Under 5 and all non swimmers and users of floats were also banned from the main deep pool and only allowed in a small baby pool and a larger pool into which 3 very long slides fed (room to play at the shallow end but not ideal). I think they weren't really going for the "young family" market :o

Oh yeah, yanbu. As long as your DDs couldn't hear you. If they could, yabu.

Kasterborous · 09/06/2015 08:43

YANBU I've not seen this rule anywhere else either. I would have said the same as you.

I can see point of the rule, but I would lie too in these circumstances.

I think it's a bit off to lie about age to save money on entry etc but I appreciate that's not your question.

Is there any reason for this rule? After all, most 3 year-olds no longer need nappies in the daytime (I know there are exceptions). Are they more likely to wee/poo by accident if they're immersed in cold water or something?

Uh oh. When my son was almost 2 he pooed in his swim nappy in the pool and I didn't notice until we got out. There wasn't much left as it had mostly disintegrated so I just washed him off in the shower and went on my way. Should I have notified staff there?

Ds1 was a in swim nappies when we went to CP. he did a poo, which leaked out, in their small lagoon pool. It was closed, emptied and cleaned before reopening later in the day. As we left utterly mortified, a woman told us not to worry. Her son had done the same. But in the big pool, which also had to be emptied and cleaned.
