Dh never drinks all his tea/coffee

He always has to leave a little bit. I always have to remember to empty his mug into the sink before putting into the dishwasher or I get splashback. Most of his family leave a bit too. Dh has no explanation for this other than 'It's what I've always done'.

I don't get it. aibu to think this is daft?

Maybe there's some perfectly logical reason I'm totally missing Confused

I do this too because I was brought up drinking loose tea.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 06/06/2015 17:26

I do it. My parents did use loose tea leaves when I was young. A mouthful of those is not much fun. I still do it now in case of limescale.

limitedperiodonly · 06/06/2015 17:30

I often do this.

Not just a little bit; often quite a lot.

You could carefully decant it with a funnel and boil it up for him next time.

Or you could just chuck it down the sink.

RedCrayons · 06/06/2015 17:34

I do this. We used to have loose tea when I was growing up and my nana said that the dregs could give you cancer so not to drink them. Confused

I do it with tea and coffee. I just can't drink the last bit.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 06/06/2015 17:36

My mum does this, it drives me to distraction.

It means she usually places her half empty cup on the floor, and either her, the dog or the kids spill it. If it is the dog or kids she shouts at them!

I never know whether it is ok to ask if she's finished, as she never finishes the bloody cup, and she thinks I'm rude if I ask for it when she is still drinking it.

Any suggestions welcome Grin

CointreauVersial · 06/06/2015 17:43

I always leave a bit.

I normally get distracted and forget to finish it (don't you just hate taking a swig, and it's just lukewarm... bleaurgh!).

Also, you never know what's in the bottom of the cup. Stray tealeaves? Toenails? Best not go there...

RackofPeas · 06/06/2015 17:43

DH does this, drives me potty!
He's very picky over the temperature he likes his coffee, so freshly made is too hot. He puts it down on the side and half the time forgets about it. The other half of the time he remembers just as it's heading towards too cold for him so he gulps half of it and leaves the rest.
He had a moan a while back as I'd stopped offering to make him a cup when I went to get myself a cup of tea. He always asked me if I wanted one when he boiled the kettle... blah.. blah...
I pointed out the expensive waste of coffee (I buy the stuff I know how much it costs!) as he rarely actually drank it. He took the hump and made a point of draining the cup the next time.
It didn't last of course and I think that if he wants one he can still make it himself.
I always drink all of my tea and as I take it black I can pop it in the microwave to heat up if its gone cold.

reginaphalanges · 06/06/2015 17:46

My dh does it too grrrr, it's annoyed me more since we've got a white sink as I have to rinse it out and wipe all the splashes from around the side.

UnspecialSnowflake · 06/06/2015 17:46

I do this, it drives DH bonkers. As others have said it comes from being raised on loose leaf tea, nothing spoils a good cup of tea more than a mouthful of gritty leaves at the end.

littleostrich · 06/06/2015 17:46

I do it because I can only drink it boiling hot. As soon as the temperature dips below my satisfactory level, I'm done. It really annoys DH.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/06/2015 17:48

Dh does this. I tip all the dregs into a watering can for the plants.

They seem to thrive on it.

TidyDancer · 06/06/2015 17:48

I do this. I think it's because at some point I had loose tea in the bottom of one cup and it was horrible getting that in my mouth. Now I leave the last cm or so in the bottom. Annoyingly I also want to do this with other drinks (even something like water or coke) because I'm in the habit.

limitedperiodonly · 06/06/2015 17:49

Would you get annoyed if someone didn't drain their wine glass because they fancied half but not a whole one?

I often do that.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 06/06/2015 17:51

I do it too, brought up on loose leaf and I hate lukewarm tea.

helenahandbag · 06/06/2015 17:54

I do this too. I think it's because I used to take sugar and the last mouthful was always too sweet. I don't have sugar anymore but I still never drink the last inch of coffee.

ItsTricky · 06/06/2015 17:59

We have a kettle with a filter and no sugar so it can't be that. Dh used to have sweeteners years ago so maybe it was that tasting yuck at the bottom.

I remember the loose tea days but still manage to drain my cup. I like it lukewarm Smile

I never drink the dregs. You run the risk of a mouthful of tea leaves, limescale, soggy biscuits or all 3.

QuintShhhhhh · 06/06/2015 19:12

I often do this. It is not deliberate. I drink slowly, or am distracted from my coffee, and then it is cold and I think "yuck, cold coffee" and put my cup aside.

OldBloodCallsToOldBlood · 06/06/2015 19:14

I do this, for the same reason as PicaK. It's too hot to drink freshly made, but the last bit is always too cold so I don't drink it.

MagratGarlik · 06/06/2015 19:15

I do this. It's because I often make cups of tea without really wanting one, so I drink half, get bored of it, leave it and half an hour later, make another cup. We get through a lot of tea in our house.

Shadow1986 · 06/06/2015 19:19

I do this.

I like my tea to be really hot so I don't like the warm bit at the bottom.

I also find sipping boiling hot tea can be quite time consuming as you can't gulp it down so I usually get fed up and not finish it all as have to get on and do other things!

I hate when I forget there's some left in the mug and tip into the dishwasher and all over the floor!

Eve · 06/06/2015 19:19

I do this, drives DH nuts, my df used to and drove dm nuts! I drink only black coffee with no sugar no not got tea leaf / sugar excuse!

Don't dont do it with wine though!

PurpleSwift · 06/06/2015 19:22

I do this with all drinks. Confused

Magicalmrmistofeles · 06/06/2015 19:25

DH does it with cereal. My pa way of dealing with it is to leave his cement (weetabix) encrusted bowls on the side until he deals with them three days later...

elQuintoConyo · 06/06/2015 19:39

I do this! DH is peplexed and bemused, but it doesn't annoy him, he's much too laid back for that.

I leave a centimetre or two at the bottom, not much. I don't even know why - perhaps the tealeaves/limescale reason similar to pp.

I did giggle at 'soggy biscuit'
