DS2 on the way and we both find boys' names very difficult to come up with. We both really like the male version of my name on its own merit and absolutely not as a 'call him after me' effort but would it seem ridiculous? Think Georgia and George, Michaela and Michael.. I figure his name won't be linked permanently to mine and it's a lovely, strong name-much nicer than mine imo.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with it at all. Arguably, the only example I can think of where it might be mildly odd is Alexandra/Alexander - purely because it is such a long, although lovely, name, that I haven't known any who haven't ended up being Alex's.

Just tell them you are classic historians specialising in Ancient Rome - that was a confusing name system!

Totally your decision! Go with it, if that's what you want to do. Most children get their father's surname, so why shouldn't your child have something from you too? In many cultures, fathers and first born sons have the same first name. Naming a child is very personal to you and has nothing to do with what anyone else thinks anyway. It's not like you're calling your child Hashtag (as someone did recently!) or something so left field that he's going to be laughed at his whole life. I think it's a lovely idea by the way.
If people don't like it, tough. None of their business.

I heard of a woman once whose father's name was Oliver.

Her parents planned to name their baby after him, but when born it turned out to be a girl. So they named her Rolive (by putting the r at the end of Oliver to the front). Why Olivia wouldn't have done, I don't know. Confused

I knew a couple who were called the same exact same name, but one the female, the other the male version. It was only the spelling of it that differed and even then, by only one letter. I always thought it was cute. Imagine their wedding vows!
