To think this is not appropriate for 6 yr olds.

To think this short film is not appropriate for 6 year olds. I don't know how to do a link so hopefully this works! This film was shown to my sons class and a number of the kids have been having nightmares etc. We want to say something to the teacher about it. m.youtube.com/watch?v=l9xX6lQ_gdY

Seems inappropriate.

Mind you I was a 70s kid and watched the public info film 'never talk to strangers' aged 7. Google that bastard. Nightmares for years. Shock

Not appropriate at all. It would be bad enough if there was a happy ending, but then there isn't.
And she's smoking in it.

I would mention it to their class teacher, I've just watched it and I thought it was scary even for me, so yes I'm with you totally inappropriate to show six year olds, goodness what were they thinking!

Why on earth did they show it?

It became inappropriate the moment the cigarette appeared.

Apart from that, the story is clichéd, weak and pointless, and the narrator is crap. He sounds about 18 and lacks intonation.

The animation is pretty, but wasted on that piece of rubbish.

Completely inappropriate for six year olds, and too badly written for anyone 11+.

Pop in and see the class teacher to check if that is definitely the film that was shown.

It's one that I came across on a fantastic site called The Literacy Shed. But that says it is suitable for KS3+ and that it contains materials which may be unsuitable for pupils in primary schools.

Glad to know it wasn't us parents overreacting. It was shown for creative writing! My son recited it almost perfectly so it was definitely that one. Some of the children in his class won't even go to the toilet alone now. My ds keeps saying every morning "I'm glad I've woke up from my nightmare". We will be having a chat with the teacher tomorrow. On the whole she is a good teacher so I just imagine this is a one of bad choice.

Jesus Christ, I'm sure I read a Stephen King book similar to that once! No, I wouldn't consider it suitable for DS who is also 6 or for my year 4 class.

There are so many other animated shorts they could have been shown.

That one is really inappropriate. How out of touch with the development of 6 year olds that teacher must be!

As you said that the teacher is generally a good teacher and feel that this is probably a one-off error of judgement, then she'll probably be mortified when you explain the effect that this has had on your son - and other children in the class.
If you have any concerns that she might do this again, then you could follow these links and maybe print off the pages. It might be worth going on the lines of "It must be so hard to find films that are exciting, but just right for different aged children. Have you come across these website? They look really interesting."

But it depends on the teacher and your relationship with her whether that would work or if it would just make her a bit defensive.

That's terrible. I've seen it before (I'm a year five teacher) when I was teaching suspense stories and looking for a stimulus and decided it was unsuitable-no question! As someone said earlier, it's recommended for ks3-so over 11

Eek! My DD is 6 and would have nightmares over that. I wouldn't be too sure about DS age 9 come to that. Definitely have a quiet word with teacher!

I am also a teacher and used to teach suspense to Yr 4. I wouldn't have used it with them, never mind 6 year olds-and I was scared watching it!

Bloody hell. What year group was it? 5-6 year olds or 6-7? Either way, definitely not appropriate. My almost-7 year old DD would have nightmares, no question. I can't believe that a teacher thought it was ok.

My year 6 dd was shown that last month. She thought it was great. But I wouldn't show it to a 6 year old. Bonkers.
