To think some people are entitled arseholes?

Just been reading the Alton Towers FB page (it came up on my newsfeed). Loads of people asking whether the park is open tomorrow/ Friday - fine. Lots asking about exchanging tickets - also fine (although the answer was there all along).

But there are some people getting really pissy about 'needing to know' now about Saturday because they have booked hotels or have long drives. Others asking why they can't go to random places like Drayton Manor on their tickets (because it isn't Merlin?). Some wanting to know whether their school trip can go on Monday next week or some such...

fFS - the poor buggers in customer service must be snowed under and are responding really quickly. Surely it is obvious that they can't give a definite decision on Friday til it is made by someone else? Bollocks to your Travelodge booking...

Bollocks to your Travel lodge booking? How nasty you sound OP, people need to know whether it's worth travelling or not. We are in Scotland, that's quite a drive for nothing! Why shouldn't peolje sho work hard and plan a well earned holiday be annoyed if information isn't forthcoming, especially if as I suspect it's all designed to minimise their losses.

Aermingers · 04/06/2015 19:48

Alton Towers are owned by Merlin Entertainment who made £400 million pounds of profit last year. So even if they're shut for 10 days that means the poor little dears will still be turning £380 million profit. Forgive me for having a little bit more sympathy for ordinary families losing out so that they minimise the losses against the £400 million. I must be such a heartless bitch thinking about ordinary families missing out. If anybody is insulting the injured it's Alton Towers by prioritising profits over customers.

limitedperiodonly · 04/06/2015 19:50

This is a Thomas Cook situation in the making.

Of course people are concerned about the money they may have spent. Wouldn't you be?

Calling to enquire doesn't make them callous.

Merlin are obviously terrified of legal action from the people who were injured as well as having to refund money they might have taken in bookings and the damage to their reputation.

This is not necessarily their fault and is not the fault of the 'poor buggers' in customer services who are fielding calls.

But neither is it the fault of customers who have booked at for worrying about their money or wondering whether to turn up.

merlehaggard · 04/06/2015 19:54

But as someone pointed out, alton towers have no control. They have been closed down by the HSE. They won't know when they will be allowed to open.

Owllady · 04/06/2015 19:56

I think it's in bad taste, but alot of people's expressed behaviour is these days

Yarp · 04/06/2015 19:57

Owllady

The two things are separate

You seem to imply that wanting to know what is going on means people don't care about the victims. It's possible to care about both things

FryOneFatManic · 04/06/2015 20:07

My son and the rest of his Scout group are supposed to be on a camp at Alton Towers next weekend, so right now we are waiting to hear whether the camp will go ahead.

It should do, but at £95 per scout (including an early entry into the park before the normal opening times), it's not money we can just kiss goodbye.

I'm assuming that by next weekend all the testing will have been done and that the camp will go ahead, but there's always the chance that stuff will need doing that keeps the place closed longer than a couple of days.

tobysmum77 · 04/06/2015 20:18

I think its bollocks they cant do anything. As I understand it they are announcing daily closures and not providing refunds until they have. Anyone who has booked in the next 14 days should be offered a refund even if in the end it's open.

tobysmum77 · 04/06/2015 20:19

So actually yanbu op but it's Merlin who are entitled arseholes unless I'm missing something.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 04/06/2015 21:03

Over- invested? No, just a bit taken aback by the comments on the FB page!

I can understand that people are frustrated and want to know what is going on - but what are they expecting AT to do? Announce a week's closure when they might be able to open again Saturday? Surely then people would get annoyed at cancelling a hotel when they could have gone.

Some people are trying to claim despite being pass holders (as we are) who can go any time. I've noticed that now they are asking people to email Customer Services directly. There are a lot more supportive comments on there now and a couple of people getting taken to task for moaning.

Maybe the moral is, buy travel insurance....

Yes, I agree with you yarp actually

I just think it's in bad taste be publicly upset about it*

*I hate Facebook Confused

tobysmum77 · 04/06/2015 21:21

You're all Annual pass holders moaning abu.

But in relation to bought tickets if they can't say they are open on Saturday then I expect Merlin to give me a refund. That is totally within their control.

To add to SistersofPercy you can also ski, either on dry slopes in Stoke or travel to Tamworth for indoor snow and Kidsgrove for, well I think it's 'I can't believe it's not snow'.

Sisters maybe there should be an 'Alternative to AT' website set up with ideas for people who cannot cancel.

PatriciaHolm · 05/06/2015 11:24

I think part of the frustration perhaps is that people on the FB page are Asking the SAME question over and over and over again. The answer on, for example, what do I do with sum tickets dated tomorrow? isn't going to change from person to person yet 100s of people feel the need to ask. So that does feel a bit "me me me!! I'm the most important! I can't be bothered to read the other 500 comments because I'm just so important!".

PatriciaHolm · 05/06/2015 11:25

And by "sum" I mean the Sun tickets!

SueBigFatSue · 05/06/2015 12:09

Have a look at one of the recent Posts to Page. Somebody asking for compensation as they used to go all the time, even owning a pass for 2 years, but now they feel they have PTSD as they've been on the smiler and it could've been them Shock I'm taking it as a joke as I can't quite believe anybody would type that seriously.

tobysmum77 · 05/06/2015 12:31

ok tiggy the people are being unreasonable then not Merlin
