another cafe thread: it's UR to order take out and then sit in right?

Whenever I am in a coffee shop and order drinks and snacks to eat in I am paying an extra 20%. Yet others come in order take out, knowing full well they will be sitting in. This to me is unfair and UR behaviour? It's also environmentally unfriendly as they are usually given extra bags, packets for pastries/take away cups which then get immediately thrown in the bin. Am I silly to be narked by this?

I sometimes do this. If I get a coffee to pass the time if I'm a few minutes early for my bus. I order coffee to take away and then maybe sit down for five minutes. I wouldn't consider this a criminal offense or a sophisticated plot to save a few pence.

Coffee has vat regardless of where you drink it. It's things like prepared sandwiches and cakes which are different.

When I was a kid it was cheaper in McDonalds if you told the server that you were eating out rather than in. Think it's all the same price now.

VAT was first put on hot takeaway food when Imwas in 6th Form College because we all bleated about the chippy over the road putting their prices up! This was about 1984/5

Is the cafe self service or do servers come over? You may be paying for the privilege of service rather than space or food?
