To feel lost

My oldest son has moved out having just turned 18 . We used to clash - over him swearing in front of younger siblings for example . He has moved in with his girlfriends parents saying its nearer work . But I can't help feel he's just bailed out our family

No he's just flapped his wings a bit and fled the nest. As long as he knows he's welcome he's not left the family. It's just part of growing up.

my dd1 did the same when she was 17. we clash like mad but the love is there and our relationship is better for it. 6 years later and her and her dp have their own place. I felt like you did but its a natural thing and good for them.

It can be difficult when a child leaves home, YANBU. Neither is he though, 18 years old and living with his "in laws" sounds pretty normal. Maybe with time you will get used to it a bit more and the lost feeling will lessen.
