Anyone watching this series?

There was another 'affair' based drama with Sheridan Smith in not so long ago.

Aibu to find these type of dramas hard to watch? Does anyone else find them unsettling?

dh is wonderful and I trust him totally. We have a solid relationship. But the couples in these dramas do too. I can imagine the devastation felt by the cheated on partner and although I don't think my dh would ever hurt me like that it scares me that there may be another woman out there who may turn his head one day. Or another man that may turn my head. Our relationship simply would not withstand any infidelity.

'Love Actually upsets me too, for the same reason. It's worse when children are involved.

Someone hand me a grip.

YANBU, I hate anything with an affair at the heart of it. Films. TV. Books. I think it's because I was cheated on by my first husband, and it brings back too many painful memories. I don't like to watch it being romantacised or sexed up for entertainment. I am aware I need a grip along with you. Grin

Yes I realise it's a normal part of life , aingonabenorematch (sorry to hear that saganorensleathertrousers) it's such a devastating thing though and the shock waves go far and wide. I think my dh would agonise long and hard if he did happen to 'fall' for someone and I hope he would have the decency to end our relationship before taking it any further.

The deceit would be far worse than having him just leave me. In The Affair he's still sleeping with his wife at the same time Sad

Just watched episode one and it's not the one I started watching! That was another series about an affair. If I track it down I will post here as I remember thinking it had potential to be pretty good at the time. Think I will like this too though. Characters seem interesting and complex, if not hugely likeable.

I can't help seeing Dominic West as Fred West though, from Appropriate Adult. Excellent program but difficult to visualise him in a leading man role after that!

I'm watching and unfortunately have experienced this first hand ( the affair) it doesn't bother me it's too cheesy and american lol the guy has a poor relationship with his kids too ... His kid chocking to death and he's more interested in the waitress ... Men ey ;)

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 31/05/2015 07:54

I've been watching it and I just don't get why they're actually having "the affair", I don't think there's a lot of chemistry between them.

ItsTricky · 31/05/2015 10:57

I agree about the chemistry. It's not quite right. I think they're both a bit damaged and can see it in each other which is pulling them together. Does that make sense?

He seems to be having the obvious mid life crisis, teenage kid troubles and has very successful FIL twisting the knife about his flagging career. His ego needs a boost, big time.

She has had a massive loss (don't want to say too much for those who haven't seen it yet). She's married into quite a controlling family and seems a bit of a lost soul, with no family of her own.

I enjoyed watching The Affair, great acting but the story of their affair actually just doesn't ring true to me. It just doesn't seem believable to me somehow. Maybe I'm just naive since I can't imagine my dh ever cheating on me or cheating myself. Despite the great performances I don't like any of the characters either, everyone seems very selfish.
