to ask the teacher why DS has exactly the same spelling list that he had in October

When he got 20 / 20 right.

It is exactly the same list.

Of course it would be interesting to see if he got them right again after 7 months.

It's prefixes again. "auto" and "trans". Again.

Teachers are human and make mistakes. Am sure it will not have too much of a damaging impact on your child's future in the long run, but do make a casual mention of it if it is causing significant upset.

I think you might have answered your own question. It's been 7 months- perhaps to check that he's remembered them, possibly next week he'll get a more difficult list but with the same prefixes.
Do you keep a record? Shock

They do the tests in the same book as the spellings. Yes, I can see a flaw in that as well Grin

YABU, well done to your son for getting them all right but the other 29 or so children in the class may not have done so and the teacher has been working on improving the spellings for the whole class. If this is the case then it would be natural to test them again after 6 months to test the improvement.

IMO the teacher has better things to do with her time than have to account to one parent for this.

If they had, for example, only 10 lists of spellings that were repeated cyclically despite the whole class getting them right each time then you would have cause for comment.

Hardly a drama. Just say sorry Mrs so and so did you mean for us to have these spelling again? Little Johnny had them in October and got them all right. The answer will be either, oh bugger no I didn't sorry he picked up the wrong ones or yes I did, it revision. Crisis averted.

YANBU to ask. Even if other children didn't get them all right there's no reason that your son should have to repeat them until they do. Unless it is just some kind of class revision test thing - which you would find out by asking.

Context is all. If it's the first time this has happened, leave it. If it's happened lots, have a word.

Sorry that sounds a bit rude. But really, does it matter if he's been given the same list again? It's end of year. everyone's tired. Give him a list of your own words to spell instead.

An oversight? A mistake? To check that he gets them all right again this time (some days my DD spells a word correctly, another day she gets it wrong)?

Schools routinely repeat spellings (as you say to check the children still k now them/consolidate). He'll probably get the same ones again next year as well!

TBH - I think it's a mistake. Shit happens. They're not the kind of words he'll be using regularly in his writing and not the kind of words that are on the top 100 must spell right list.

I think the spelling lists he gets are a waste of time (for him) anyway. He;s one of those kids who can spell well. Still, we can "tick the box" of doing them anyway.

I regularly reset there, they're, their, your and you're. Children will get 10/10 and then consistently misspell them in their day to day writing.
I suspect that might be why they have been given again.

This is the exact list from 7 months ago. They are not the words you would normally use in writing as they are not commonly used.

The words you mentioned are ones that are commonly misspelt. These words aren't even commonly used,let alone misspelt.

My DD's class splits the children into groups for spellings with different spellings for each group. Could it be that your DC has been given the wrong list?

YABU. The teacher has decided these are the spellings he is to learn. May be they are doing a class topic on automobiles and transport next half term and she wanted to give them all a chance to spell the topic related words correctly.
I couldn't even remember the spellings my DS had a month ago let alone 7.

That's what I think. Shit happens. I'm not bothered about it - just a bit surprised to see it.

Loving all the possible reasons though. The class topic one is good. They're doing Romans.
