Tights...

I am being driven mad by tights. They are so easy to destroy. The £5 pair I bought from John Lewis laddered as I put them on. Others look ok once, then come out of the wash all tangled and full of so much static, I'm afraid they'll start a fire in my sock drawer.
Does anyone wear tights more than once?

Buy the ones from Tesco 40 to 80 denier. Lasts me several wears and washing machine cycles.

ApignamedJasper · 30/05/2015 08:18

I just never wear tights, hate thd bloody things sorry, not helpful!

19lottie82 · 30/05/2015 09:04

HD - 40-80 denier are like leggings, not the best with a pretty evening dress and heels or other such outfits!

OP - If you are taking about lower denier, I find the best plan of attack is to buy cheap ones (5 pairs for 1.50 from Primark or £2 from tesco etc) I then view them as "disposable" so to speak. And personally, I don't find they actually ladder that much more than the £5 a pair one from M&S !

Sheitgeist · 30/05/2015 09:09

I agree with the primark disposable tights, thats what I do.

Apparently, freezing tights before using is meant to strengthen them somehow, though I've never tried it!

Pinot4me · 30/05/2015 10:25

I wear hold ups (buy several pairs in the same colour) at least they only ladder one leg at a time, so last longer lol

cleanmyhouse · 30/05/2015 11:01

Tights. Bastards.

spottybottycream · 30/05/2015 11:09

Also, don't wash them.in the machine. Hand wash them and squeeze dry in a towel and leave to air until completely dry. Machine washing them will destroy them! (even if it does say you can on the pack) lower denier, buy disposable priced pairs as pp have said above.

stonelog · 30/05/2015 11:13

Or machine wash them well wrapped up in a pillowcase only.

maddening · 30/05/2015 11:14

Sainsburys basics 5 pairs for £2 are ok

Tights. Bastards

Truest statement ever.

YoniMitchell · 30/05/2015 11:17

Putting them in the fridge overnight before you wear them does seem to help a bit. Otherwise I'm afraid I share your frustration with the thin ones. M&S Autograph ones are more robust I've found though.

Discopanda · 30/05/2015 11:51

Make some strong coffee, apply to your legs and voila! It'll look like you're wearing tan tights and they'll never ladder Grin

ItsTricky · 30/05/2015 14:11

Handwash in warm water with literally a drop of liquid. They only need a quick swish. It's the detergent that wrecks them.

ChestyNut · 30/05/2015 14:16

I hate tights, have to wear them for work and it costs me a fortune
I wear support tights arson feet all day.
If I hand wash I can sometimes get two wears.

Do people still actually wear suspender belts?

I wore hold-ups when I was pregnant and couldn't find any comfy but nice tights (other than really thick ones), but found they kept slipping down. I put up with them (grudgingly, but appreciated that laddering one meant you only needed to change that leg) but can't imagine wearing a suspender belt on a regular basis.

Chopsypie · 30/05/2015 21:51

My h&m ones seem pretty good, I've managed quite a few wears so far. I do handwash mine though. by handwash I mean bring them into the shower with me and give them a quick rinse

FourEyesGood · 30/05/2015 21:52

I wear M&S 100 denier black tights most days. They last me ages and I can wash them in the machine. 2 pairs for £10; I've got 4 and they're all still in good nick. I know black opaques aren't sexy, but I don't want to be sexy at work.

Gubbins · 30/05/2015 22:02

Yup, love my M&S opaque tights. I wear them pretty much every day at work, and don't have a pair younger than 18 months old. As for hand washing...Ahahaha. That's never going to happen.

reni1 · 30/05/2015 22:08

I second M&S 100 denier tights, 60 are good, too, they last years. Buy all tights larger than the pack suggests, that way they won't rip. I wear L in tights even though I am a S in trousers.
