To get coil removed because it makes me feel moody?

I had the copper coil fitted about three weeks ago and since then I have just been permanently grumpy and PMS like.

I can't take hormonal contraceptives so having it removed would be going back to just using condoms alone. I also cannot get pregnant! (don't want to go into reasons here)

AIBU to get it removed or should I give it more time?

Newquay, thanks for sharing your experiences! I'm still undecided as to what to do ...

Hi Olivecane. Just to update you - I had my coil removed yesterday.....and the bloomin thing was bent inside me! It was like one arm of the 't' had caught and not fully straightened out - so (and the nurse agreed) - it was poking into me as I had imagined. This morning although I still feel sore, I no longer feel all stiff done one side and my lower back pain has gone. So my point is that no matter what others may tell you, if your instinct is that it's not right - then maybe it's not!

Now - another discovery was CASH - contraceptive and sexual health clinic - part of nhs. The clinic nurse removed the coil was amazing. She recommended I try the mireva coil once it has all settled down a bit. Her concern with sterilisation (the Essure thing I mentioned) was that it could bring on an early menopause - and why would I want that to come early she said. So my advice to you would be to see if you can get an appointment with a CASH nurse - even if just by phone. And discuss your options with the real experts. Good luck ! X

DONT DO IT! My mirena fell out - literally was left with it in my hand and I immediately became pregnant (if I wasn't already pregnant when it fell out) and I'm now 18 weeks along with DC3. PMS symptoms do not compare to the heartache of being single with another unplanned baby Sad

I had a pulmonary embolism this year and got the coil fitted as can't be prescribed the pill again.

Doctor was ever so breezy about it- once it's in you won't know it's there, such a low dose of hormones etc etc.

That was nearly 8 weeks ago, and touch wood, it is just about settling down. I didn't have problems with my mood as you describe but I had horrid period-like cramps daily, felt sick and was bleeding lightly every single day. Up to last weekend I wanted to throw in the towl with it big time.

I don't think it's the easy breezy solution they try and sell to you, at all!
