5 year old dd has on going constipation it turns out, she has always complained of stomach ache. There are not many fruit and vegetables she will eat, only cucumber, strawberrys and dried Cranberrys. She always asks for bread. This is her daily diet:

School days:
Breakfast: slice of toast with Nutella, calcium enriched tropicana
Snack: drink of milk from school, she refuses the piece of fruit they provide
Lunch: wholemeal finger roll with grated cheese, cucumber batons, pot of dried cranberry, calcium enriched ribena
After school: a crumpet
Dinner: example: jacket potato and beans, strawberrys and a tablespoon of Greek yogurt

Weekends:
Breakfast: slice of toast with Nutella
Snack: two fig rolls
Lunch: beans on toast, strawberrys and tablespoon of Greek yogurt
Snack: crumpet
Dinner: spag Bol, strawberrys and tablespoon of Greek yogurt

I am at a loss with how to help improve her diet

Thank you for all the advice. I have decided I am going to try and make her eat fruit it veg sticks between meals by offering no alternatives if she is hungry, I am hoping this may work. It doesn't at school and she goes 7am to 12am on just a slice of toast. She hates porridge and weatabix and cereal. I will try granola in yogurt, if she doesn't like that I will try gluten free bread. I think at lunchtime I will cut her down to half a sandwich and up the fruit and veg. And change back to diluted fresh apple or squash from the health food shop. She has always been fussy and as a result had a bad diet but I'm hoping she may be old enough to understand she needs to make changes. She is a skinny little thing and I think that's why I give in to her demands for carbs/treats too easily!

She is on movicol twice a day for the last two weeks and is now pooing about 5 times a day, there is loads!! It's not runny just normal poo. I am quite shocked by how much there is.

If anyone wants to join the thread that's fine :) I thought it may be a good place to post such a topic as I have heard constipation is quite common in small children.
My other daughter has chronic constipation but that is due to a dairy intolerance so she is ok now as long as we keep her dairy free. We just got her better and now the oldest is suffering :(

What she like with pears?

My DS2 was (still is but not so bad) to eat fruit and veg but would drink pear juice (not the think sugary stuff but actual proper pulp included pear juice, probably more smoothie I suppose) He was terribly constipated all the time and it was the one thing that actually worked.

Try popcorn plus a fruit smoothie or fruit salad for breakfast. Bananas are ok for bulk (eeewwweee) and are a great prebiotic but need dood gut flora so try her on a probiotic as well from the health food shop if you can - they can really help transit. apples are the best soluable fiber that kids will eat readily - try half an apple 3/4 times a day.
