Friend has just got kitten, 6 weeks old. She is going on holiday a week on sat, for a whole week. Kitten will be left alone, with someone popping in once or twice a day. Aibu to think the kitten is too small and likely to hurt herself? I have never had a pet (allergies) so I don't know if I am being ott, but I am concerned for the pet.

I have tried to mention my concerns but she dismissed them. If I call the rscpa, or the owner of her flat, she will probably think its me because I already said I was concerned. She also has fallen out with a neighbour and I worry if I report her she would unfairly blame it on her.

Same as above, let us know what area she is in, I would gladly look after it with lots of cuddles. Poor thing is just a baby and would be incredibly lonely and scared.

Take the kitty for a week and dose up on piroten :)

I think you need to take the kitten or find someone who could have it for a week, way too little to cope with being on its own for long periods.

Is the kitten rescued? It's strange for a proper breeder or an animal rescue centre to allow a kitten to leave it 's mother before 8 weeks anyway.

I have a 12 day old kitten I am bottle feeding at the moment (74th foster!) and the thought of her being left alone in 4 weeks is grotesque. 6 weeks is when I usually wean them fully and introduce them to a day cage. until then they are in a small box with a hot bottle fleece and clock. really sad to think of the little thing being dragged away from its mother let alone being left. It might not survive with no attention. I never fail to marvel how they choose the hot water bottle over milk every time.

Yay! A happy update!!!

so I went to my friends today, having resolved to talk to her about it and not be a coward! So I arrive and after a few mins casually say 'oh have you thought any more about what you are doing about kitten when you go on hols?' Then my friend goes on to tell me another friend of hers told her that leaving the cat would be really dangerpus, and explained how much stimulation they need. Kitten owner friend is suitably mortified, and arranged for other mate to stay at hers and look after kitten! Kitten owner has also bought her a little scratch post and a couple of toys.

Kitten owner friend explained to me she has always had adult cats at home, but that was when she lived with parents and didn't have the same involvement/ responsibility she has now as owner of kitten. So, she has had her eyes opened and done the right thing. Phew!
