To ask your budget for holiday spending money?

Sorry, I know it's rude to ask but I'm trying to work out what's a reasonable amount to budget.

Normally we don't budget at all, spend more than we ought, and feel guilty for most of the holiday.

Can't help feeling we'll have more fun if we set an amount and stick to it. But how much?

Talking self catering holidays with two little ones, but in fairly pricey touristy areas eg Cornwall and Menorca. We like doing activities unfortunately as they cost a fortune!

To spend £300 while staying AI you must have spent quite a lot where you didn’t have to spend eg evening meals away from the hotel. If I was spending that much I would question whether or not it was worth paying for AI.

We usually spend about £400 for two of us but we either go self catering or B&B and eat out probably 10 times in a week (ie most lunches and/or dinners.

A couple of times we might have a big and/or late lunch and only have drinks/tapas in the evening or just have an ice cream or snacks for lunch and then a proper meal in the evening.

We spend pretty freely in mid priced places, but usually get a good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks from the supermarket to have on the balcony to cut down the amount we need to pay restaurant or hotel prices for.

Whatever you decide to take you need to divide that by the amount of days you are there for.

eg. £750 for 5 days is £150. On the first day take only £150 out with you. If you spend it all, no matter as you know you still have it for the rest of the week. If you only spend £100, you have £200 for the following day and so on.

I do this regardless of whether I am going away on my own, with DH, friends or family and it works every time and I generally have money to bring home with me.

About 30 a day average, 4 of us camping in Cornwall for 10 days. Food is covered by normal household as camping sk normal cooking.

meant to say, we don't drink so no booze, I book things like Eden project, ferries etc in advance so cheaper and pre paid.

We're going AI to Turkey next week and have got £500 in Euros and don't plan on leaving the complex apart from maybe going into the local town for one day. We've only got it so we know it's there if we really need it.

It was worth paying for AI in our case because we priced it all up before booking and paying for SC accommodation and flights was more expensive that booking the AI package and eating out occasionally.

I've exchanged £150 which is about 540 Turkish lira. We're taking debit/credit cards with us so well have access to more should we need it.

Day trips seem cheap, at only about £12 each so I don't imagine I'll need much more. Except for duty free!

I spent £4000 in 7 days in vegas each (child free get away, didn't gamble)
I spent £200 between 3 people last year on an all inclusive in Egypt, £30 on an all inclusive in Jamaica. All tips for the most part. Plan ahead and set a budget that way.
