About the Post Office & Parcels

Just tried to post a gift to someone in Europe. Perfume and body lotion.

Firstly I resent being questioned as to what is actually specifically in my parcel in front of a queue of people, I feel it's a massive invasion of my privacy.

Went to post it and apparently this is now "restricted" and I can post perfume within the UK (if I supply a name and address) but not to the EU.

Am I missing something or is this just a bit nuts? I have now wasted money on a gift I cannot send.

The liquids rule has been in place for quite a while now. AFAIK, it's due to the restrictions on liquids on aircraft. Some other couriers may take your package

you crazy? Do you honestly think you should be able to send anything through the post? Aerosols for instance? Food, ie. meat, fish etc?

No I do not thinkI should be able to send "anything" but I am allowed to take perfume on holiday on an aeroplane?

You can send anything by the right carrier. You can order anything from the internet and it'll come to you, but it's often by courier.

Can anyone recommend a carrier who will take it please?

Do you think they shod have taken you into a little private side room to ask you, given they need to ask in order to do their job properly?

You should have that option yes - people post pretty personal things sometimes.

If I was returning a package from Ann Summers I wouldn't particularly want to tell the post office worker that in front of a massive queue of people no - but I guess some people are less private than me - that doesn't mean I am wrong in wanting privacy though.

You can go into a side room at the chemist?

I hate going to the post office too.

(for the record, if you were sending something back to Ann Summers, i'm sure 'mechanical goods', or 'clothing' would cover it - you dont have to go in to graphic detail)

If you were returning a parcel to Ann Summers you would just say that you were posting clothing or toys...you wouldn't say lingerie or Ann Summers. Or sex equipment.

If you'd said you wanted some privacy they'd have let you write down what was in the parcel though. They do have provisions for that.

DHL will usually take perfume.

If you want to send perfume abroad order online and have it sent there.
